1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Description:

1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible in excellent condition. I have owned the car for a couple of years now.The prior owner did a full body off restore of the car.I have most of the receipts summarizing the work which will be included. See info below for a good summary of what was done.You can tell by the pictures the condition of the key items.It drives smooth and all of the items are working well including air-conditioning and the radio.Since my original purchase the only item replaced was a new battery a few months ago.The original car was located on the east coast in Virginia and it was shipped to California via closed container auto transport.The paint job is solid with a couple of chip spots. As with every Ghia it does leak a super tiny bit of oil every now and then. I am not sure how many miles on it since the restore but I have put less than a 1000 here in California.A cool thing is that the car was featured in a 2010 TV Movie "Unanswered Prayers”.The car at that time was in its original condition and a different color.Included in the sale is the DVD with the parts marked as to where it shows up on screen.The car has been registered in California and has clear title.The CA registration was just renewed. The custom license plate is not staying with the car (not included).

The reason for the sale is that my wife just isn't driving it all that much and we want to make room in our garage for another vehicle. Fair offers will be considered. This Karmann Ghia is an automatic stick-shift convertible with optional air conditioning and optional BN2 heater.

This car has had a total professional restoration with any rusted metal replaced with new metal welded in. This includes the heater channels and rocker panels. There is no rust to be found on this car. Major work was performed by Volkswagen specialists The Bug Haus in Richmond, VA and Skyline Automotive in Madison, VA.

Only the best materials and work went into this car. In addition to the metal work the following has been done to the car:

·Rebuilt Automatic Stick-shift Transmission - Works flawlessly.

·New Air Conditioning System from vintage Volkswagen AC Specialist Gilmore Enterprises.

·Rebuilt BN2 Auxiliary Gas Heater. The heater includes all of the hard to find Ghia specific ducting. Professionally rebuilt and works perfectly.

·Retro-sound rebuilt Sapphire radio provides the original vintage look with modern four channel digital stereo. The radio has a plug for a portable player such as an ipod.

·New interior featuring Scat bucket seats and new seat belts.

·New carpeting from Newton Commercial the premier provider of vintage automotive carpet sets. This carpet set is comparable to the original German square weave in quality.

·New Empi Gt Style steering wheel.

·New dash pad and dash face covering. All instruments and electrics work.

·New floor pans, heater channels, rockers and other new metal where needed.

·New Convertible top and bows from Chuck's convertible tops.

·New paint - Bahia Red.

·All chrome trim is new or refinished.

·All new rubber seals and gaskets.

·New windshield.

·New reproduction stainless steel bumpers.

·New fuel system including new fuel tank and fuel lines.

·New brakes and brake system.

·New radial tires including the spare.

·New Wolfsburg logo wheel covers and trim rings.

·Many other new parts that are too numerous to list.

A couple of other items to note: NOS (New Old Stock) parts were used where possible.

This includes the following:

·Turn signal assembly - The reproduction units are not good quality so a NOS part was used.

·Ignition assembly - The original was worn and replaced with a NOS unit. The keys for the reproduction units will not work with the original door locks. The door handles on the car have been rekeyed to work with the NOS ignition assembly, so you have a single key for the ignition and the doors. In addition the NOS unit gives you that vintage looking VW key.

·Also the car now has a Petronix electronic ignition conversion.
