1970 Porsche 911 Sportomatic Sunroof Coupe Description:

Hello, and thank you for your interest with this Porsche 911. This car, or what's left of it, presumably would be best suited for someone who has a desire to build themselves a private race car with a 911 shell. Here is why. If you have reviewed the Porsche COA you will note that the Sportomatic transmission in this car is NOT numbers matching. The Sportomatic transmission in this car is believed to have come from a VW Bus at some point in the past. However, there is a numbers matching (period correct) Engine which is the 2.2L.
This vehicle was purchased at an auto auction on February 24, 1998 where it was sold with a BILL OF SALE only. There is no TITLE to this car and no one has gone through the CA DMV to title the car since it was purchased at the auction. The vehicle did run and drive when it was purchased. However, there were no more than 2 miles put on the vehicle after it was purchased at the Auto Auction (Auto Storage Auction Pool DBA - A.S.A.P). The car has been sitting in storage for the past 21 years. The car is now being sold by the Trust and a notarized statement of facts will be provided to the purchaser based on these facts.
I will send any interested party 100 additional photos of the vehicle from all angles, including copies of the paperwork and COA.
The Good:
  • Period correct engine (Estimated Market Value $3000)
  • The engine has the period correct carburetors
  • Complete interior (Estimated Market Value $1500)
  • All glass is intact
  • Brakes work
  • It should be able to be titled if someone wants to put it back on the street ( I have a referral for a registry person).
  • The buyer will receive a chain of Bill of Sales dating from 1996 - 1998 including the auction receipt.
  • The floor plan appears to be good condition.
  • The cars rolls around.
  • It does come with the hood.

  • The Bad:
  • The Period correct engine is FROZEN. At some point in time, someone took the spark plugs out of the engine (maybe to work on it) and it got moisture in the pistons.
  • It's a Non-period correct sportomatic transmission.
  • The rust. The are multiple rust holes on the window pillars. Additionally the sheet metal behind the rear seats covering the engine is completely rusted out. There is rust at the battery box. There is rust on the right rear suspension mount. However, someone can fix this.
  • Someone installed fiberglass turbo "look" fender flares, they have obviously fallen off the car. The only option here is to purchase or build these fender flares again. I have seem them listed for $100-200 per fender (the fiber glass ones).
  • The bumpers are missing (they were stolen some time ago). However the bumpers were non period correct (1975 model).
  • The Reality:If you love the timeless look of these cars and want an opportunity to have the look without caring about period matching anything than this is for you. Go ahead and stick an LS1 or some other built motor and trans and build a fun car. That's the read deal here.
Yes you could take this back to its original condition, but with the fenders being cut and it being a sportomatic.... mehhh.
The car is located in San Diego, CA. The buyer will be responsible for all transportation costs. The seller is only accepting Cash or Cashiers Check within 7 days of the purchase. There is a non refundable deposit due of $500 for any buyer whom does not meet these requirements. DO NOT BID ON THIS CAR IF YOU CAN NOT MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
