1972 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Description:

Here is a great opportunity for you to start on this classic Mercedes Benz 280SEL 4.5 where I intended to start on it a year ago. When I purchased this all original Mercedes I was excited because it appeared to only need upholstery repair. I was excited to own it and might have over bid at auction. (too many beers) Sadly, I bought the car and quickly started making all kinds of repairs with exception of the upholstery which it still needs.

I have all the receipts for the past 12 months. Most of them are from Park Place Mercedes in Dallas. I got to know the vintage repair man at Park Place very well. Excellent mechanic. Also, the previous owner provided all of her receipts as well. This is now a (2) owner all original car. (CA and TX)

Below is the list of repairs that we made to the car. I categorized the repairs by area of the car in order to simplify the list:

·New starter, alternator, battery, and distributor.

·A/C blower, R-12 charge, Schrader valve, thermostat, and new heater core.

·Replaced tie rods, new oil pan, oil drain nut.

·Becker Europa stereo works but speaker by-pass created for “stealth” Bluetooth, and all new speakers.

·Removed fuel tank, cleaned, sealed, and replaced. New sending unit, fuel pump, and filter.

·New throttle assembly, choke housing, and vacuum sensor. Temperature switch on the intake manifold.

·Replaced aux fan and connector assembly and new water pump. Radiator pulled, pressurized, and repaired.

·2 new window regulators, 1 new electric window motor.

This Mercedes comes with vintage Mercedes Benz tool kit and a few cans of R-12 refrigerate. Extra Key. Owners service and warranty manual. All service records.

This is a well-documented super low mileage Mercedes Benz with only 52,000 original miles with all electric windows and sunroof. This is the most fully optioned version of a 1972 Mercedes Benz that you can find. I drive it all the time and it is now mechanically perfect. Paint is very very good. It is all originalbut I had one quarter panel resprayed that had a few scratches. I just can’t force myself to add to my loss by getting the upholstery replaced. I have quotes in Dallas and Fort Worth to do a complete replacement of the front and back seat leather for between $2,000 -$3,200. When I bought it, I thought it needed upholstery…. 12 months and >$10k later…it still needs upholstery. But it runs strong and perfect. The 4.5 liter V8 powered 280SEL was the last of the W108 series Mercedes Benz. Produced from May 1971 through November 1972, only 8173 of this most powerful W108 cars were built and this is a rust-free rare sunroof version with white and black color combination. This 280 SEL 4.5 also has factory air conditioning. The A/C is fully functional and blows cold air.

The underhood data plate shows the following options: 420 Automatic transmission, central locking system, 491 US version 519 Becker radio, Grand Prix 589 air conditioning climate control, electric window lifters, 593 Heat-insulating glass and heated rear window. This car also has cruise control.

I could talk about this car for a long time. It is a mechanically perfect car now. If it had been this perfect when I bought it…I would have finished the upholstery. For more information, please contact me at 972-897-3430 and thank you for listening, looking, and maybe bidding.
