History
You are looking at a two owner, garage kept,380SL that originally was purchased in San Francisco, California, and ended up in North Hills, California. The owner passed away, and his Wife had no use for the car, so she sold it to me. Then, it came to Texas. I have owned it for two years, and during my ownership, I gave the car the love it deserved. Even though it was garage kept in California, the previous owner buffed on it so much that there were wear marks on the top of the ridge of the body line. Therefore, I had both sides totally resprayed and hand striped. When I purchased the car, I immediately took off the chrome strips that surrounded the fenders as they look good, but are cancer causers. Luckily, there wasn't any corrosion to deal with. I've spent a lot of time under the hood dialing the red paint in and buffing and lots of polishing. This car has been garage kept, has never seen rain, the hard top was covered and stored properly, and dusted, polished and waxed on a more than normal basis. This car needs to be driven and enjoyed by someone who has the time to enjoy it as I don't, and these cars are meant to be driven!
Mechanical
This car is solid! I received the manual and delivery cards that came with the car upon delivery. the Wife only could find records from 2016 but during that time, there was a lot of money spent on the car such as control arm bushings, tie rods, and sub-frame mounts which is all included with the car. I also purchased the secondary hood pad for the new owner to install it from Mercedes-Benz. The car is straight, the body is straight, the soft top is original to the car from 1985, and I never used it except to take the picture for the listing. Hard top is solid, and I stored it behind the car in the garage on the hard top cart with the cover on it. While I've had it, it has only been touched and serviced by the Mercedes-Benz dealer. If there was any type of an issue, they would have let me know, and the only thing I have done to this car is replaced some vacuum hoses and some fuel pressure regulators on the top side of the engine, changed the oil, brake fluid flush, replaced the windshield washer reservoir, and changed out the old alpine 6x9 speakers with brand new Polks. Factory power antenna still works as it should.
Body
The body on this car is straight! One of the reasons why I bought this car. Being a previous owner of several SL's, you learn to find the secret areas where rust occurs. Notorious areas are pictured to show that this car is in fact solid.
Interior
Interior on this car is nice. It still shows it has the 1980's circa "nav" which is the compass and still has the attachment for the cell phone antenna. Seats are in great condition with no rips or tears. I did replace the floor mats since the old ones were showing it's age. However, the carpet is in good shape and everything is intact as it should be. The dash on the car has a protective layer of carpet because there is a crack on the dash (normal happenings on these cars) just due to age.
Disclosure
For a 33 year old car, this car is exceptional. It's the right color combination, highly desired, and has that classic Mercedes-Benz look that even Bobby Ewing loved when he drove his on the set of "Dallas." With it being 33 years old, it's not a brand new car, but does have that familiar SL smell. The car is what it is and has been represented accordingly. It is being sold AS/IS-WHERE/IS and no warranties are implied. It will have it's normal wear and tear items just like anything else, but, you can tell it has been well taken care of and loved as it should be.
