1993 Mazda RX-7 FD Touring

1993 Mazda RX-7 Touring Level Description:

I purchased this beauty in November of 2001 when it wasn't. The first owner purchased the car in Ohio in June of 1994 and hit a utility pole in September of 1995 with about 21,000 miles on it. The car was sold to someone in Texas with a salvage title in January of 1996. It was repaired by March of 1996 and re-titled in Kentucky with about 23,000 miles. After that, the second owner moved it to Virginia where it was continually re-registered until 1999, with about 36,000 miles, when it was sold the the third owner in Kentucky. The third owner drove it pretty hard until May of 2001. He (a woman wouldn't abuse the car this way) put about 61,000 miles on it and let the muffler go bad and damaged an apex seal. The car was running rich, loud and the heat/flame when into the antenna access hole in the right fender and caused a small interior fire damaging the rear wiring harness and serious bumper damage (See Picture).
The car was issued a salvage title and passed to another Kentuckian who found that with family and job the repair was beyond his reach. I had it shipped to Santa Fe and began the restoration project. I had it in running condition by July, 2002 when I registered it in New Mexico with a regular title.
The car is stock with certain reliability modifications. Everything works, but the 5th syncro is a little iffy. The car was repainted in 2017 in the factory Montego Blue color. The motor was replaced with a Bruce Turrantine rebuild. He lives and works in Raleigh, NC and is known for providing Wankel engines for experimental airplanes. I have only used super unleaded gasoline with 4 cycle motor oil added at Bruce's suggestion to add lubrication to the apex seals. I keep Castrol 10-40 in the crankcase; the battery, anti-freeze, oil and spark plugs were changed about 400 - 500 miles passed. The tires are BF Goodrich G-Force with at least 80% of the original tread depth. Specialty maintenance services for transmission, air conditioning, brakes, alignment and tires have been used, but I do the usual tune ups, maintenance and common "wrenching" including installation of the rebuilt motor.
At 85 this car needs a younger owner who would like to do the safe, fast things like auto-cross and otherwise have a fun ride.
