1989 Land Rover Range Rover Description:

This is a highly restored Range Rover Classic--in many ways like new or better.

This RR was bought by four years ago out of Arizona.

Body

Truck spent eight months at the body shop, when it got out all of the dents were removed, new bronze original LR paint, with new white roof paint, ARB front and rear steel bumbers, RTE sliders, snorkel, and driving lights. The rust in the drivers floorboard and the two back seat wheel well were replaced with new steel--all RRCs have rust there, this one no longer has it. There is some surface rust in places but not much and nothing structural. The wheels are from a 93 RR LWB, the hurricane wheel, and are powder coated black. The truck also has a new grill, windshield sprayers, LED headlights, and new raised lettering on hood and liftgate. Also, WeatherTech window deflectors. Hi Lift jack mounts on front bull bar. The exterior of this truck is in excellent shape.

Since, there are a couple of small door dings and paint chips. Nothing obvious but the RR is driven and not parked away.

Also, Wilco tire carrier and Rotopax gas cans and an original Camel Trophy designed snorkel.

Interior

The interior was stripped to the metal, everything removed. The dash, console and door panels were all reconditioned. The front seats were recovered in leather, the rear seats reconditioned, new seat belts throughout, and steering wheel has a leather wrap. The Center console is like new but recent damage to the selector tape (see picture) and be advised the center cubby box now houses the ham radio brain box, the box will be provided if you want to remove the radio. New carpet throughout with Land Rover rubber mats. New headliner in original Land Rover fabric. The dash was painted a lighter color to freshen the dash and some of the brown parts are now black---looks better now. This truck was a Vogue so it did not come originally with wood trim, except the doors, it now has new cherry wood trim throughout ($1500 in wood work alone). Also, these trucks did not have drink holders; this one has two Discovery drink holders up front and two drink holders behind the console. A layer of sound deadening was added to the floor and doors. New speedometer reading 39,000 miles, I have the original one too (139,000 miles).

Suspension

New 32 inch tires. New front brake calipers, all new bearings, several new bushings, HD shocks, HD springs, 3 inch lift, stainless steel brake lines, upgraded heavy duty steering rack with Defender steering damper moved behind steering rack--if you go off road, you want this. Also, dislocation cones on all four corners and additional straps for the rears.

1 year old Detroit Tru Trac lockers front and rear.

Engine and Transmission

Mostly original, fully serviced, new plugs, plug wires, cats removed, new resonator and muffler, full BG service, no leaks, KN filter switchable to snorkel, all new hoses and belts, new fuel pump, new starter, compression test normal.Runs and idles normally and quiet, that is for a RRC.

New motor mounts last month.

No leaks and no dash lights.

Electric

140 amp alternator--this will handle anything you need (stock was 75 amps). All new light bulbs throughout, mostly new lamp covers, for instance all interior covers are new, European style front light indicators, new window and sun roof switches (all windows and sunroof work), Kenwood radio with Blue Tooth, new blinker and wiper switches/stalks, new seat switches, Magellen TRX navigation, headlight switch, Hella driving lights and two spot lights with interior switches, back up camera with display in rearview mirror, 4 channel Ham radio with front bumper mounted antenna, Cobra CB radio with rear bumper mounted antenna, new rear window wiper motor (it is not wired in), new security system and locking doors, heated front seats. And, significantly, a dual battery system with two new batteries.

HVAC

Rebuilt and updated A/C compressor--blows cold, all new ducting--nasty old ducting gone, new heater box and all new hoses, all ac vents are like new. Will need work on heater blower, but heater works and gets the truck warm, even hot, without the blower.

The bad

As noted, heater blower is bad and makes a noise at highway speeds when the heater is selected; otherwise quiet. Also, headliner was replaced but sunroof still needs a new covering. The seatbelt nanny buzzer is disconnected, the transmission shifter detentes could be reinstalled (I like it without the detentes), the front windshield washer works but does not spray strong (hoses I am told).

The term new means new during the re build but most parts are less than 6000 miles on the RR.

All work done by me or LR mechanic--I did only easy stuff.

Very reliable, drove to Colorado last September for a 2000 mile trip, ran great.

As for Ebay's rating, that is ridiculous. If anything, the data supporting the "6" shows this is an exceptional truck--no accident history, no title problems, no issues at all except allegedly 13 owners over 30 years; some of the owners were just pass through owner/dealers.

The 89 RRC is considered by many to be the most collectible of the RRCs because it has the next generation of the 3.9 engine and it does not have anti lock brakes or traction control, on these earlier models those were just things to break down.

On April 30, 2019, the RRC passed its vehicle inspection (on one try) and has a new Texas registration until June 2020.

This truck gathers a lot of attention and is in great shape.
