1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Description:

Hello. I've reached the conclusion, that it's time to let go of one of my cars that I've owned for a very long time. I knew of this car in 1989, as my friends cousin's wife owned it. It sat in a garage in any type of weather, and was only driven on nice days. I came to own it in the end of 1997, and titled it in my name early 1998. The title shows low 40K miles at that date. I kept it up, only driving in nice weather, and was driven to Florida from here in Upstate N.Y., and back a handful of times. In early 2003, I decided to spice it up a little bit, I purchased all new GM decals, new GM door, and T top gaskets, a new GM nose, as the nose on the car had a hairline stress crack from age, picked up a new steel cowl induction hood from goodmark industries, and had a GM body/paint specialist blow the car apart, prep, and paint the car, then re apply the new decals. I drove the car home, changed the stock wheels out for the wheels in the pictures. I then pulled the factory stereo out, with the original face plate including the lighter, put those in a box, picked up another face plate and a chrysler cd/cass player, modified that plate for fitment, and put in a new GM lighter assembly. The original radio, and lighter, and face plate go with the car. In early November of 2003, the car was involved in an accident, which resulted in the rear bumper cover, trunk lid, spoiler, and one quarter panel being replaced, all with GM parts. The quarter panel was sourced from a GM dealer in Detroit, and shipped to me. There was no frame damage, no trunk damage, no other damage. The reason for the quarter panel replacement is that I wouldn't allow any body filler to be put into the car for the repair. It was all GM metal, or we were going to trial! They agreed, and the car was repaired to my specifications. I then had the transmission rebuilt, and the knucklehead that rebuilt it, put a shift kit into it, which I am personally not a fan of. This can be reversed with a simple swap of the valve body, and honestly I refused to drive the car again until it was fully insured through Hagerty at first, Grundy currently, with a agreed value of $15,000. I've been driving it under these insurance policies for the last 15 years, very low miles per year. I drove so few miles in the last 15 years actually, that I just never got around to replacing that valve body to make it shift more normal If driven normal, the car shifts nice and firm. If driven hard, it shifts hard. This is the ONLY flaw in this car in my opinion. Ok, about the car........
The seats, door panels, dash pad, and all interior plastic are original, and in excellent condition. I replaced the shifter plate with a new GM one with the pinstripes intact a few years ago. Too nice to use for a driver, as they scratch very easily! The factory floor mats are in nice condition with the exception of wear on the drive side one. The carpet is new GM carpet that I changed just because I wanted to. The radio works as it should, new speakers front and rear, the gauges all work as they should, the AC works great, it's been retrofitted with 134A about 15years ago and still holding that charge. The T top seals as stated before are new. The cruise works as it should, doors close good.
The engine has had some upkeep items replaced. I did intake gaskets about 17 years ago, replaced the heater fitting in the back of the intake about the same time. Heater core is new, 3 row radiator is new, plugs are new, cap is new, wires are GM wires which are also new. The belts have only been changed once in life, the originals are in the trunk. The clutch fan was replaced in Florida back in 2002, and works as it should. The heater hoses, and radiator hoses are all original. Engine starts and runs as it should, no surprises. The picture with the front hood open, doesn't show the light working. It does work, I just loosened up the bulb as it was messing with the camera.
Transmission was rebuilt with shift kit. shifts firm. has been serviced twice since then, as I just serviced it because of how much it sat. U joints are original and are good, rear end had the posi unit replaced by GM under warranty back when the car was only a few years old, and is in perfect working condition. I have changed the rear end fluid twice since i've owned it, adding the GM posi additive. Car has 3.73 gears.
Exhaust is original with exception of mufflers. I put flowmaster 40 series mufflers on, probably back in 1999? Fuel lines, brake lines, and transmission lines are also original and are in perfect condition.
The front brakes have been replaced once in life and are probably 18 years old if not older. They still look like new. original rotors, bearings have been pulled and greased every few years. The entire front suspension was replaced with MOOG parts, greased, and aligned. Rear brakes are original GM shoes, with plenty of life left on them. E brake cables are also original and work as they should. These things still being original should give you a indication of the condition under the car. Once again, never seen snow, only driven in rain by accident it's entire life, and the only water it see's now is it's yearly bath and wax job!
Car comes with it's original T top bags in the trunk. The original spare is in the trunk, never seen the ground. 3 out of the 4 headlights are original, and work as they should. Matter of fact, most of the light bulbs in the car are original, and work as they should.
If anybody has any questions, please ask. Car is currently on the road, but hasn't left the garage much in the 15 years. If local to my area, feel free to come over and see in person. Everybody who's ever seen the car says how clean it is.
Thanks for looking!

I reserve the right to end this auction at any time, as this car is for sale locally. The reserve less than the buy it now. If the buy it now is used, I will include the original wheels, and another set of locking t tops, and GM bags. Thank you!
