Debuted as the Healey Hundred that garnered a production deal from BMC's Leonard Lord at the 1952 London Motor Show, the Austin-Healey 100-4 soon shattered speed records and won circuit races with the era's top drives on both sides of the Atlantic. Relentless development brought 6-cylinder power with other updates by 1956 and a name change to "Austin-Healey 3000" with a displacement increase to 2.9 liters for 1959. Export sales to North America commanded the vast majority of Austin-Healey production.
Development of the 3000 progressed through two "Mark" iterations and by late-August 1962, the traditional, bare-bones roadster models were succeeded by the well-appointed Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II BJ7 Convertible. A true convertible model with 2+2 seating allowing occasional rear-seat passengers, the BJ7 featured a new wraparound windshield, wind-up side windows, swiveling vent windows and a quick-folding soft top. Twin SU HS6 carburetors replaced the former triple SUs for easier maintenance and tuning and ground clearance improved with a revised exhaust system. Performance remained strong with factory-claimed top speeds exceeding 115 mph. According to marque experts, 6,113 BJ7 2+2 Sports Convertibles were produced.
Featuring an extensive nut-and-bolt restoration performed to factory specifications with limited mileage and use since completion, this handsomely presented 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II Convertible is an original right-hand drive Export model. Produced May 15-16, 1963 and dispatched from the factory on May 31, 1963, it was delivered new to Iceland. Subsequent ownership was in California, with one owner there confirmed by the original "Pink" CA title document. Finished in two-tone Healey Blue and Ivory White, the Healey's factory features and options included miles-per-hour speedometer, U.S.-specification headlamps, overdrive, a heater and adjustable steering column, a Blue tonneau cover, a single fender-mount mirror and a laminated windscreen.
During the restoration, the Healey was disassembled and the body panels were stripped and refinished in the factory-original color combination. Weather seals, door handles, mirrors and light assemblies were replaced. The interior features a Black Heritage leather interior, three-spoke steering wheel, Black lap belts and Smith's gauges and heater. Chrome bumpers, a polished stainless-steel exhaust system, rebuilt twin carburetors, and front disc/rear drum brakes behind 15-inch chrome knock-off wire wheels and Dunlop SP Sport tires finish this outstanding Healey off in fine form. Dont miss out on this beautifully restored British sporting legend.
