When it comes to vintage automobiles, California and the West Coast of the United States have always been the most desirable the world over for many reasons; the mild climate and the fact that many automotive trends started in California. The automobile is the perfect technological symbol of American culture, a tangible expression of our quest to level space, time, and class and a reflection of our relentless mobility, social and otherwise. You see automobiles advertised the world over described as California cars because at some point they were in California or drove through California. A true California car is one that was sold new in California and titled in California, one that has the original plates that are on that title is a true California car.We are liquidating a collection of 300 actual California cars. This is a collection that took 70 years to comprise.
This 1966 VW Bettle is an original California time capsule that has spent the last 41 years in storage and is part of a 300 car private collection that is being liquidated. The car is finished in the original Pearl White with Pigalle Red Leatherette and still has the classic original Black and Yellow California plates issued to this classic over half a century ago when it was first sold at Ray Ely Volkswagen in Oakland California one America's first franchised VW and Porsche dealers. This bug has been in a time warp locked away from1966 was a very special year for the VW Beetle the first and only year for the 50 horsepower 1300cc engine which also had a new 30PICT/1 carburetor and Cam bearing added to the engine for 1966 as well as a unique 1300 emblem attached to rear engine lid setting it apart from the other years. There was some other unique changes on the 1966 models. The emergency flasher on the dash was a one year only change, also ventilated wheel slots and flatter hub caps as well as a bigger rear view mirror also the 1966 model was also the last year of the 6-volt electrical system which was a motivator for the original owner as many of the vehicles in his private collection were 6 volt just as many were White with Red just like this unique classic. The suspension for the Beetle was improved in 1966 with a ball joint front suspension which replaced king pins as well as improved torsion bars and shock absorbers. Needle wheel bearings replaced ball bearings. The outer door handles changed from square pushbutton to round pushbutton and 1966 was the first year locking seatbacks were introduced
Mechanically: The 1300cc fires up and runs as a low mile hardly used engine should. It was stored without fuel and it has a brand new German fuel pump.
Exterior:The exterior of this Beetleisconsistentwith a vehicle that has been stored indoors in a mild climate for the last 3 decades, The original paint is still very shiny with minor dings orimperfections and a small dint on the drivers rear fender caused by owner not a major dent but after this happenthe car was sealed away for 41 years
Interior:The interior is stunningRed Leatherette option is a huge bonus, starting with the headliner which is all original with just a small hole, the interior isconsistentwith one that had see little usebecause it has kept indoors in a mild climate, the door panels are also like they were 50 plus years ago, it has had no exposure to the sun, rain or any other elements the last 50 years, The interior overall shows a lack of use and looks to have been sealed away.

• INSPECTION: I have done my best to disclose all information known about this vehicle for auction. I welcome a buyers inspections. If you plan to have a buyer's inspection, please make sure you inspect the vehicle prior to the auction ending. Inspection fees, if any, are buyers responsibility.
• REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES MADE BY SELLER: This vehicle is being sold "as is". No representations or warranties are made by seller, nor are any representationsor warranties relied upon by bidders in making bids.
• TITLE INFORMATION: If payment is made by cashier's or personal check we will hold all titles for 10 days or until funds have cleared.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY:

• All shipping charges and arrangements are buyer's responsibility. I will make vehicle available to third party shipping company hired by buyer but will not be responsible in any way for claims arising from shipping damage.
• Licensed carriers are generally insured for $3,000,000.00. We assume no responsibility for damages incurred after the vehicle leaves our location. Any claimsor other communication regarding shipment of vehicles will be between you and the shipper, not with seller.
• The amount of time it takes for delivery is dependent on the carrier. Verify with the shipper for an estimated time of arrive to be sure.

FINALIZING YOUR PURCHASE:

• I will contact the successful high bidder by email after the auction closes.
• Successful high bidder MUST communicate with seller through eBay within 24 hours of the auction ending to make arrangements to complete their transaction. If we cannot confirm your intention to buy or the sale is not completed within 5 days, we reserve the right to relist this vehicles or sell to any other qualified buyer.
• In order to secure bidon vehicle, successful bidder (buyer) must within 24 hours of bid closing send to seller a non-refundable deposit in the amount of $500.00 via PayPal. Within 72 hours of bid closing, buyer must send balance of funds by bank wire transfer, cash in person, or bank certified funds to seller.
