A couple comments regarding this model year, 1971 VW Transporter, A.K.A., THE VW BUS. This is the best year to many enthusiasts since it is factory 12 Volt, the first year of front end disc brakes, and the last year of the Type I, upright motor which is the easiest to work on, and is the same design in the VW Bug and Karmann Ghia line up, with over 21,000,000 Bugs built and 65 years of production. This is THE STANDARD for the People's Car and it is THE ICON of simpler times.
