The car was sitting for over a month since I've had time to move it, it started up on the first try this morning in the 20 degree temps and ran well and held idle. This video of it running is from after I started it yesterday.

I purchased this a few months ago as a project car to fix up and drive around but needs have changed, and not having a heated garage to work in has slowed my progress now that its FREEZING outside. It doesn't need much money invested. Just time in a warmer area or garage where you can knock out the small things. I haven't driven it much since I've owned it which is the other reason I am wanting to sell it. There is a spare 1600cc engine that was running when it was removed that comes with it. Clean title in my name in hand.
It was sanded and painted, its NOT a show finish, but looks much better. Tires are great in the snow and with the engine over the drive tires, it handles great in snow and handles deep snow well.
The oil leak was from the engine builders fixing a hairline crack on the oil cooler tab with a JB weld type fix. It held for years, but was leaking when I purchased it. I tried to apply more to make it work for a few more years but the temperature dropped before it completely cured and it did not cure correctly. The temperature doesn't seem to want to cooperate, but a warm garage and that fix would likely work again.
The engine is a 1600cc single port engine that was built/modified by Painters Grinding in Denver. It was built to be a commuter and I was told that it easily held 70mph on I25. I have had it up to 70mph and it rides amazingly smooth for a 40+ year old vehicle.
Exterior/body:
All glass is in good condition, windshield has a few cracks
Body does have some small rust areas and there is a small section of the floor behind the passenger front seat that is starting to get weak and has a little hole in it. But overall it is in good condition. Under the battery is pretty solid.
Rustoluem paint job (currently has a topo pattern of pin stripe tape over it which you can only see up close, can pretty easily be peeled off or pressure washed off)
Yakima roof rack
I have a bunch of the chrome trim pieces (i think they are all there, they were off when I bought it)
Suspension/Tires
New Firestone Winterforce P205/75R-15 tires with under 50 miles on them
Suspension is in good condition, shocks are newer
I have brand new wheel bearings for the rear (inners and outers for both sides) that have not been installed. One side felt a little gritty, so I figured I would replace everything.
Electrical:
New battery
Cleaned up wiring and added a BlueSea fuse panel under rear seat
New headlights
I believe it needs a brake switch, there is power to and from it, but not through it. All other rear lights work
Fender lights have a short at the light which was blowing a fuse and I did not have time to diagnose. Wire leads are taped.
Engine/Drivetrain:
New fluids in trans/engine
Valve adjustment, new valve cover gaskets
New exhaust
I have a box of spare gaskets for the engine and transmission
Heater boxes seem to be in good condition and cables work.
Spare 1600cc engine that worked when it was removed for the current engine to be dropped in.
It has the one oil leak on the engine, the trans looks to have a small leak from the front area.
Fires up first try even in cold temperatures and after not being started for weeks.
Interior:
I made a rear seat delete panel (still have stock rear seat)
Interior is in good condition, I pulled everything out, and cleaned it before reinstalling.
Drivers seat could use a little patch on the outside edge
Auction includes:
1974 VW Super Bug detailed aboveBin of spare parts (new and used) including most of the exterior chrome trimNew starter that I purchased due to the old one sticking, but it started to work fine and return shipping plus restocking fee on the new one was a little expensive so I kept it as a spare.Spare 1600CC which was running when removed to swap in the built engine.VW manual and wiring schematics

I was asked about how bad the oil leak is and if it would be drive-able with it. When it is running, it is a very slow drip. After parked, it will drip a few more drips as it cools down since oil is still in the cooler. I haven't driven it often enough to know how much it leaks quantity wise. It most definitely is road worthy, I would just check the oil so you can get an idea how much oil it leaks and how often it would need more depending on how far you plan on driving it daily.
