DESCRIPTION:

1958 Double Door Panel in need of complete restoration.

THIS DOES NOT COME WITH A TITLE.

I live in the Seven oh Seven area code (this is for my number below)

I'm in the process of getting the title in my name but this my dad's bus for over 20 years. The vehicle history is clear. DMV fees are paid, paperwork is started and all I have remaining is a VIN verification to complete. I will transfer the vehicle using a Bill of Sale and Duplicate title form for anyone not picking up in person, the VIN verification will be up to you. (I would be willing to go to DMV with you during pickup, using your trailer, and complete the verification at DMV and start the transfer to you. This would need to be arranged with me prior to purchase. (there is a chance that my next door neighbor, a local Deputy Sheriff, can do the verificationfor me, if he does, I'll gladly provide that for you). If I complete the verification and receive plates + title in my name, I will be raising the price.

< MORE BUS PICTURES;

Rust in the normal places plus roof/drip rail rust.

Rust in: Rockers, front floors, cargo floors, battery tray, behind front wheels, "rockers" in front of rear wheels, "pin" holes in front window frames, a couple grapefruit sized holes in the belly pan, drivers side roof rust 4"-5" high and pin holes around the perimeter.

Cargo area was poorly painted to prevent additional rust and the exterior was primed in black to "prevent" additional rust while stored outside, no body filler added. The only remaining filler from several decades ago is about 1/3" thick covering an area about 10" on the left rear wheel well area. What you see is what you get.

Correct beam

Correct small-nut tranny that may or may not be good, although I have no reason to suspect it's not good. (unknown)

No motor, no handles, no electrics, no seat, no glass, no brakes.

It will roll onto a trailer but can't be towed using a tow bar, the bearings are toasted and the brakes occasionally lock up.

I live in the seven oh seven area code. To avoid spam calls I listed my number without the area code above, you'll have to put it together. I prefer emails and texts for questions but if you don't like to type just leave me a voicemail and I'll return your call within a day or so. Thanks, Steve

Sold As-Is.

(Please inspect photos, ask questions, and if at all possible, inspect in person prior to purchase)

In the interest of full disclosure I want to explain the origin of this bus.In 2016 my parents lost their home and shop in the Clayton fire, northern California. This bus, along with a 1960 DD panel were both recovered. Fortunately they were both empty panels with very little to burn and sitting in a grassy field so they didn't suffer any serious damage. The wiring harness was burnt and the front tires burnt. The rear tires were fine as was the engine (which I pulled and is not included). To put it in perspective, the other bus had original paint and it was unharmed except around the rear tires that burnt. I've included a photo of the other bus in the linked pictures to provide context. My dad owned both busses for nearly 20 years, but all the paperwork was lost in the fire, this is why I had to complete a VIN verification start fresh with paperwork, but the busses had clean titles and still will/do. After I recovered the busses, I only had a cover for one bus so I paid a local kid to clean and paint this bus to prevent any further rust damage, the paint work is not professional but has helped to preserve the bus while sitting outside. Prior to this work the bus was only primed in grey and already had a dusting of rust. I highly recommend viewing this bus in person so you can assess the condition for yourself. This is not a bus that you can drop a motor in and drive, you'll need to install a new wiring harness, in addition to rust repair. I have no concerns related to being in a fire, as this was not indoors or subject to significant heat.

ABOUT US:

I am a motorcycle enthusiast just like you, I ride to live. I’m so grateful to work with my passion, and I thank you for making that possible. I’ve worked in the automotive/cycle trade for over 20 years, the majority of which I spent as a tech, but I have several years experience in service writing at anindependent shop. I've been working with VW's since I was 13 years old, so over 25 years. I'm not currently very active in the vintage VW scene so my knowledge of current pricing trends is limited, but I'm familiar with VW's and should be able to answer most questions.
