1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible Description:

This car was totally restored with a body off restoration in 2007. It showed 33,400 on the odometer prior to restoration. It now shows 41,130 miles. So it has been driven only 7730 miles since being restored 10 years ago. It has always been garage kept and has primarily only been driven to and from car shows. It has won several awards at car shows. The two I am most proud of are the second place award at the Texas Classic VW show in Fredericksburg, TX in 2014. That show brings over 300 VW's and there is stiff competition. The other is the First Place award at the Fort Worth VW Stampede and Rodeo in 2013. It also took First Place in the Temple, TX car show in 2016. It made Top 10 out of almost 300 VW's in the VW Harvest in 2014.
The car is very tight and sound for a 45 year old car. It gets many looks going down the road. Lot's of people ask me what kind of car it is. It has been used in parades such as the Baylor University Homecoming Parade. They stopped making these cars in 1974 and they only made approximately 2500 convertibles in 1973. So it is a fairly rare vehicle to see on the road. The list of items that has been replaced on this car is very long. Almost everything. Here are some major items:
Totally new seats & interior - done by Sewfine VW Upholstery (now located in Denver)1776cc Engine with 2 barrel carburetor, alternator, and electronic ignitionNew battery in 2016New convertible topNew front end, shocks, and steering boxNew halogen headlightsNew Pioneer CD Player & stereo radio with input for iPod, iPhone, or mp3 playerNew cigarette lighter power outlet
Oil has been changed at least once a year regardless of how few miles driven. Nothing but 93 octane fuel has been used in this engine. The valves were adjusted 408 miles ago and the compression at that time was 124 pounds per square inch in each cylinder.
All trophies and accessories will be included in sale (accessories include a shop manual, new spare tire, scissor jack, lug wrench, and various pamphlets and advertisements, and spare parts such as coil, distributor cap, belt, etc.)
I had this car totally restored because I had a VW in high school. It has been a lot of fun driving it to car shows and showing it off. It's time to let someone else enjoy it now. I have a lot more money invested in this car than I am asking for it (A LOT MORE). That's how it is when you restore an old car and I understand that. However, if I cannot get what I am asking for it I will be OK with keeping it and handing it down to someone in my family someday.
I have the car registered as an antique which costs very little and does not require annual inspections. It did pass inspection about 2 years ago which is when I changed it to antique registration. I also carry antique car insurance which only runs about $200 per year and covers the value of the car.
Feel free to ask me any questions. Serious buyers only please.
