1973 VW Volkswagen Cargo Van Bus
1973 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Cargo Van Description:
I purchased this van as a shell two years ago - no engine, no trans, nothing. The cargo version option is very rare and very hard to find. I was looking to turn this into a refrigerated vehicle for my farm and for farmer's markets. I had the bus partially restored by JOGR in Wisconsin, they are a vintage VW specialty shop and did an incredible job. Below is a list of the work done:-Used Transaxle / Good used correct year transaxle install
-Complete Core Engine with all tin and accessories, exhaust
-Turn Key Engine Rebuild
Turn Key Engine Rebuild includes complete disassembly of engine, cleaning, case machining of mating surfaces, Line Bore of bearing surfaces and thrust cut, Cylinder heads machined. All new bearings, gaskets, seals. New Pistons and Cylinders. All Engine Tin powdercoated, installed. Alternator inspected and cleaned, replaced if necessary. Fuel injection eliminated, new carburetor and intake installed. Engine Test run and tuned. Engine includes a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty.
-Brake Parts
New Master Cylinder, hard metal brake lines, flexible brake hoses, rear wheel cylinders and shoes, front brake pads and rotors, new calipers. Brand new brakes.
-Engine and Trans install Labor
Install and wire engine, R&R Transaxle, Install new throttle, clutch, and heat cables, adjust and tune. This includes engine and trans removal from donor bus.
-12 Lug Nuts
-shift reverse plate
-Heater flex pipes
-Heater flapper boxes - sourced used units and R&R
-Fuel tank - clean, weld and reseal
-Front wheel bearings, seals, rotor turning
-Fuel filler Hose
-Fuel filler neck - used- modified to fit
-door key - cut to code
-Used ignition switch
-Trans fluid
In addition, I have done the following:
-new front and rear shocks
-new correct year electrical wiring harness half installed
- rust proofed entire interior and painted the entire cargo area
What the van still needs:
-finish installation of the electrical wiring harness
-new tires
- Heater cables are rusted in the tubes. The control cables that go from the dash to the engine are rusted solid in the tubes. The tubes need to be cut out and replaced with new tubes for your factory heat to work.
The bus starts, runs, and stops, and is 85% brand spanking new vintage VW. The cargo door works great and there is very little rust for a vehicle of this age. Also this has been garaged in a temperature controlled environment for the past two years since I have owned it.
I'm just looking to get what I put into it. The shell of the vehicle was $2000, and the work was $10,500. All major work was done by professionals.
