1981 TOYOTA 4X4 PICKUP TRUCK HILUX STANDARD SHORT BED
1981 Toyota Pickup Description:
Hard to find Original Solid Axle Hilux that has not been raised, modified, abused, bobbed, rolled or rusted out! All this and a rare short-bed 4x4 to boot! The truck has power front disk brakes, manual steering, no air conditioning, manual windows, manual seats, sliding rear window, aftermarket radio.Very Nice Truck! Runs and drives excellent! The original owner retained this truck until 8/2017. It was bought new in Grants Pass, Oregon and has remained here since new. I am the 3rd owner.
The second owner repainted the truck (original color) and had the engine replaced. No rust ever! I have thoroughly inspected this truck. There is not rust in it and there has never been rust on it! Some paint is missing under the battery tray, but the metal support, fender apron, core support and frame are undamaged. Only the paint has been damaged; see photos. The only body panel that is not original to this truck is the front valance! How many early Toyota trucks have you seen lately with the original wheels?
New long block from Toyotaengines.com in 11/17. The engine cost $2200 and this price did not include the labor to install. Engine has less than 1600 miles on it; probably much less! I am not positive on the mileage when the engine was installed, but the clutch was installed in 2011. At that time the mileage was only 1600 miles less than its current reading, so I suspect the new engine has very little miles on it. I have driven it about 500 miles. New Radiator, new water pump, new fan clutch, new exhaust, new battery, rebuilt original Aisin Carburetor, valves adjusted.
Hi-Lo transfer case with 4-speed manual transmission. New clutch, transmission seals, and flywheel resurfaced in 8/2011; 1,600 miles ago (cost $866 at dealer). Transmission and transfer case work as they should. Put it in 4-wheel low and crawl over anything!
The body is in exceptional condition. New windshield and gasket. Bed is in excellent condition with no rust and no spray-in liner to hide damage / rust. Look at the photos, they describe this truck much better than I could! It runs as good as it looks.
Interior is original. I was told the driver seat was worn beneath the cover, but I have not removed the cover. Radio is aftermarket. Dash has a crack, but based on its location, it is very hard to see from the interior. The headliner and carpet are very presentable.
Lights, horn, signals, radio all work. A seal on the steering box is leaking, but should be an easy fix. It hasn't leaked enough to bother me yet.
The title is clear; no lien holders, not salvaged, not branded etc. I do not know if the mileage is original on the truck. Based on the overall condition of the truck, it very may well be. The title is not marked that the mileage has exceeded the odometers mechanical limits; another indicator that it is actual mileage.
My price is listed and I think it is very fair, given the condition and all the work done to this truck. There is a reason it does not have an "or best offer". At this point, this is my bottom dollar! These trucks are hard to find,especiallyshort-beds in this condition. It is currently registered and I enjoy driving it. Vintage trucks are only rising in value. It will be worth more next year than it is today! It gets comments and "thumbs up" every time I drive it! I have several vintage / cool cars including muscle cars and old Corvettes (C1 and C-2). When I have visitors, everyone comments on how cool THIS TRUCK is! It gets more comments than any of my other cars!
When I got the truck, the smog pump was removed. I do not have the smog pump. If your state requires a smog inspection determine if this will impact you.
