1976 Suzuki RE5 Description:

Amazing All Original 1976 Suzuki RE5 W/ 250 Miles
Here we have for sale an amazing, all original 1976 Suzuki RE5 Wankel Rotary powered motorcycle with only 250 original miles on it. This bike was a true barn find that came out of Oklahoma. I bought two RE5's from the original owner who bought the bikes brand new in 1976 and drove one of the bike's and never drove this one. This bike was forgotten about for all these years before I bought it and got it running and got it back on the road again. This is a very nice running and driving RE5. These are quite extraordinary machines and they are quite a work of art. The machine is really a pleasure to drive because there is practically zero vibration because of the rotar that doesn't create vibrations like a typical piston driven engine does. The bike is quite amazing that it only has 250 miles on it. You wont find another all original, unrestored RE5 on the market that looks like clean and has this little miles on it. The bike is all original with its original tires, original seat, original everything. The only thing I have changed is a bolt here or there but I still have the couple of bolts that I replaced. I bought factory replacement Suzuki bolts with whatever ones I changed out. When I purchased the bike, it was not running, it had not run in who know's how many years. I began researching and studying the manual and made sure I knew what I was doing before digging into the bike. I also got in contact with a well known RE5 expert who helped me get the bike running. He supplied me with a new air cleaner, spark plug adapter, and a few other parts and pieces, all which were needed to get the bike running. I changed the filter, even thought the original looks in excellent condition. I just didn't trust an original filter. I changed out the original fouled spark plug, my guess is thats why they didn't drive the bike because the spark plug was fouled and they couldn't start the bike. I rebuilt the original vacuum operated fuel petcock. I went through the carburetor and rebuilt it. Luckily the bike was drained of all its gas so the carb with very clean inside and the fuel tank looked new inside. With the fuel system clean, I checked and adjusted the timing to the new specs that Suzuki switched to in their Service Bulletin. This bike never had the change done because it was never used. I cleaned and inspected the single set of points. This bike was a converted bike that has two points and the one set was removed by the factory. The points still has there original points dust cover on them, I thought that was pretty cool. Those are probably also gone. I changed all the fluid in the bike with what the RE5 expert uses and what was suggested by the factory back in 1976, Castrol GTX in the sump, transmission and oil tank. The oil the sump was like new. It looked like it was never used and it wasn't dark or smelly. I also fully flushed the radiator with brand new radiator fluid and I made sure to add the proper amount of Bars Leaks, another factory recommendation. The radiator fluid was also like new, I questioned why I ever flushed the radiator but I wanted to be certain that the bike had all new fluids in it and the cooling system was clean. I changed the fork oil too but the front forks leak and they will need new seals. I have an original Cycle World magazine where they tested a brand new RE5 and the brand new bike and they had noted in the test that the fork seals leaked then! The original Bridgestone tires are still on the bike. They have some light checking in the rubber. I never wanted to change them because that would ruin the originality of the bike. I only drove this bike short distances so I wasn't worried about them. The front tires has a little flat spot in it from where it sat on it side stand for almost 40 years. The front brakes were rebuilt but the original brake lines were in great shape so I kept them on the bike and they have all of their original date stamps on them which was pretty neat. The chrome is in great shape on the bike. There is just some slight patina on the exhaust pipes. The original paint on the bike is spectacular. It shines very, very well and looks amazing. There are some patina spots and little chips here and there but they are hardly even noticeable. There is one little ding in the front fender, but other then that, the fenders are nearly perfect. The electrical all works on the bike, the front and rear lights work, and the turn signals work and the horn. The dash lights work and the gauge lights work. The rubber pieces are all in very nice condition on the bike, all of which are still nice and soft and pliable. The original cables are all like new and all operate well and with ease. The brakes are like new with little to no wear on them. The wear indicator on the rear brakes shows full brake pads left. The seat on the bike is like new and in excellent condition with no issues or tears. The seat pan is in excellent condition. The bike has it original tool kit with it. The bike has a brand new battery in it too, those things are huge and expensive! I think the battery cost nearly $100. There is a little scrape on the exhuast pipe on the left side, you cant even see it unless you get under the bike. Also, the front spokes have some patina on them. The gauges are in excellent condition. The pods were painted in 1976 and have some light patina on them. The mirrors were removed but I found that Suzuki still makes original style mirros so I bought a set for the bike. I have the original owners manual, and service manual that will go along with the bike. I also have the original set of Suzuki keys for the bike too. This bike is still amazing that it only has 250 original miles on it. When will you ever find one of the most unique bikes from the 1970's with just 250 miles on it? You may never find a lower mile RE5 on the planet for sale. This bike is an absolute attention getter, every show I have taken it to, people just flock to the bike and cant stop talking about how weird but cool, the rotary engine is. And everybody loves the sound of a rotary engine. This bike runs and drives very well. It shifts through the gears perfectly and cruises down the road with ease and comfort with almost no vibrations. The bike has awesome power and power that is totally unique to a rotary powered motorcycle. The electric starter works perfect and the bike starts first blip when you push the electric start button. It idles very well and will never overheat due to the large radiator and the water cooling system. This is a total collectors bike and this rare gem deserves to go into a collection and be cherished for many years to come. I have a clean and clear Nevada title in my name. The bike is currently registered and insured and is stored in my garage at home.
