The 1966 Shelby GT 350 is one of America's most iconic muscle cars. As the 1965 model year cars were none-the-less homologated race cars with harshness and rattles, the 1966 models were more manageable with some mechanical revisions that softened the edges and made the cars more accessible to the masses. Exterior changes included Plexiglas quarter-windows and the scoops and ducting necessary to help cool the rear brakes. Mechanically, the engine remained the same and the Borg-Warner T-10 four-speed manual gearbox remained standard while an automatic was now optional. The suspension was much closer to stock, greatly improving the ride and comfort. Only 1,365 cars were built in addition to 999 GT 350H Hertz “Rent-A-Racers” and 13 specials and prototypes. According to the Shelby American Registry, this GT 350 was originally shipped to Hayward Motors in California on February 28, 1966. It was sold to Mr. Richard A. Waltz of San Carlos, CA on April 4, 1966. It changed hands to a Mr. Howard Baker in 1970. During Mr. Baker’s ownership a new engine block was installed. Mr. Baker sold the GT 350 in 1976 to William Otto Jr. of York, PA. Mr. Otto Jr. kept the car for the next 9 years and was then purchased by Mr. Bruce Huntley and went back to California. Subsequently, this GT 350 found its way to Wisconsin and ownership in the hands of Mr. Colin Comer. Mr. Comer sold this GT 350 to its most recent Connecticut based collector (client and friend of Autosport Designs) 13 years ago, it has remainder in this ownership to date. This GT 350 has been restored in original Wimbledon White with Blue Le Mans racing stripes. According to the Shelby American Registry, the GT 350 was sold new with its fiberglass steel frame hood and is currently fitted with Cobra hollow letter valve covers, optional wood steering wheel, Koni shock absorbers and a 1965 interior. It is also fitted with Torque Thrust wheels. A wonderful example of classic American muscle, this GT 350 would certainly make a great addition to any collection or simply for touring pleasure. A recent road test attests to this GT 350 performing flawlessly in every respect. It is turn key ready to be thoroughly enjoyed by its next muscle car enthusiast.
