1968 Porsche 911 Description:

When Porsche rolled out its 1968 model line, it faced a daunting problem: new U.S. safety and emission standards. The “S” engine from 1967 was a high-performance motor in all respects. With high-compression forged alloy pistons, forged and nitrided connecting rods, large valves, and big Weber triple-throat carburetors, it produced a healthy 160 horsepower. Porsche soon realized that this motor would probably not comply with the new U.S. emissions standards without additional development. Careful tuning would eventually resolve that problem, but Porsche did not have time to establish those procedures in time to allow delivery of the new 911 S to its most important market and could not risk shipping new cars that it could not legally sell.
Management decided to restrict the 1968 “S,” identical to the 1967 version, to Europe and instead offer American customers the one-year-only 911 L, with an air pump-equipped engine producing a lesser 130 brake horsepower. Over time, a small number of European-spec 1968 S Coupes and Targas have been imported to the U.S., where they enjoy special recognition. The 1968 Porsche 911S Coupe offered here is finished in gorgeous Light Ivory with a beautiful black interior featuring pepit cloth inserts. This incredible 911S has spent most of its life in Venezuela after being delivered in Switzerland from Germany originally. One of only 1267 built, this rare and desirable Euro Spec version 911S still retains its matching numbers engine and transmission.
It is finished in its factory correct color combination and is accompanied with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, owner’s manual, dealer books, restoration receipts, tools and more. We’re proud to offer this magnificent 1968 Porsche 911S Coupe to the most demanding collector, investor or enthusiast who understands and appreciates investment potential of this great classic. The refreshed interior houses reproduction sport seats trimmed in black leatherette with Pepita cloth inserts. Lap belts have been fitted for the front occupants, and additional appointments include folding rear jump seats, quarter vent windows, Coco floor mats, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio. The optional Webasto heater has been disconnected.
A leather-trimmed four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of VDO instrumentation that consists of a tachometer with a 7,200-rpm redline accompanied by a 250-km/h speedometer, a clock, and combination gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 21k kilometers (~13k miles), approximately 15k of which were added under current ownership. The 2.0-liter flat-six was overhauled in 2022 by Heights Auto Imports of Tampa, Florida. Work reportedly involved replacing the pistons and cylinders as well as the camshaft assembly. Twin Weber carburetors are equipped, and an MSD Street Fire CDI ignition module has been installed.
