1960 Porsche 356 Description:

1960 Porsche 356 Roadster chassis number 87931
Nicely documented history back to day one with a great paper trail. Non matching number engine ( P-89194 ). Has had significant rust repair and bodywork during its life. Unfinished amateur cosmetic restoration in the early 1990's and basically sitting ever since. Engine has been recently started after a new fuel pump and carburetor rebuild (sounds pretty good too!). Still needs brakes and fuel tank/lines attended to. Electrical stuff untested. This is a project car being sold as is. You can NOT drive it home.
Sold new Sept 12 1960 in Edmonton Alberta Canada to a Dr. Lobsinger
2nd owner purchased April 1966
3rd owner purchased March 1967
4th owner purchased Sept 12 1970
5th owner purchased Feb 19736th owner 2016-present
5th owner imported the car to the US in 1991.
Great paperwork trail with service markings in the manual from new until 1966, and service receipts into the 70's. Hand written service records in a hardback book from Sept 1970 through 1991. Mileage seems consistent with current odometer readings at roughly 65,600 miles.
Written record of floors being replaced in 1970. Looks to have been parked in 1975 and then restoration started in 1990-1991. Owner moved to the US and took the car with him, but never completed the work. Sat garaged until 2016 when sold to the current owner.
Pros: Well...its a real deal genuine 1960 Porsche 356 Roadster that is pretty darn complete and even looks half decent. Values of fully restored examples are very high with auction sales numbers reaching as high as $280k (RM, Scottsdale 2015). Originally yellow, and its still yellow. Top looks like new, interior is pretty decent. If you were to park and walk across the street and squint a little...she looks like a beauty queen. Clear California title.
Cons: Non numbers matching engine. Crappy body and paint, tragic rust repair. Signs of fiberglass and bondo are present. One small star chip in windshield. Engine runs but car still needs work to be drivable. Electrical stuff is messy and untested. Box of small parts included that should probably be attached to the car. Should be looked at as a full restoration project, but I suppose one could make it a driver and run it like it is if they desired.
It is what it is. Great car, great history, poorly restored. She needs someone who will give her the love and respect that she truly deserves.
Reserve is extremely reasonable. The car will NOT be sold away from the auction, do not ask for a price please. I'd like this to be a real auction where people bid to buy. Im happy to take additional photos and answer all questions. Local buyers are welcome to inspect but I will be unavailable to show the car over next weekend, so if you are serious about seeing it...come soon.
Please enjoy the auction here and spread the word to others. Im very curious to see where this one ends up!
Bid high and bid often...but if you are the winner, please do follow through with the purchase.
