1956 Porsche 356 Description:

This is a very unique conversion. Originally designed to be a rebody-ed Volkswagen, which proved to be a huge disappointment, under-powered-poor handing plagued by maintenance issues. After 5 variances of VW engines, including a Scat engine and different transmission combinations, the car then evolved to be the delight I had hoped for. The entire car from the chassis to the power-train was replaced...4130 moly tubing with current state of the CADdesigned components'.

The engine is a Subaru WRX/STi, intercooled (air-to-liquid to air), turbo charged, 4 camshaft, 16 valve engine. This was to retain the tradition of horizontally opposed engine, I use twin-turbo heads (which helps make 350HP) was /is the right engine.The STi engine has 2 cooling systems with 4 fan assisted radiators (2 for the engine-block and 2 for the intercooler turbo system). It has a dry-sump oil pan by John Edwards Engineering . Power to the ground is delivered through a Kennedy adaptor to a Porsche 901-5 speed manual transmission modified to be quick-ratio 3 speed with 2 over drive gears in a caged transaxle (the 4th and 5th gears are from a 2 liter 914 trans)...this means very quick off the line and not compromising top end (165mph). Driven conservatively you can expect 27 mpgor 10 mpg when you are feeling frisky, it will almost pull the wheels under full floored acceleration and the transmission can take it unlike the VW 4 speeds

It features a rubber-mounted independent rear end design, utilizing 936 CV joints big .....which provides excellentstopping power. The suspension is Avo adjustable coil-over shocks with traction bars. Both, front and rear have heavy-duty stabilizer bars to keep the car glued to the street in turns. The steering is quick ratio Formula 1 power assist to get you away from the curb easily even with the 16" and 17"////10" wide Z rated tires which are mounted to the Italian made Antera wheels.........

The STi engines are very smooth, durable with strong factory internals. It sounds very healthy through a 303 stainless steel exhaust system that has been treated with heat resistant wrap. It was professionally done by RCE custom car shoppe. Photos of different stages are available to those who present themselves as legitimate buyers. Later, custom turbo and dyno tuning (link engine management systems) was performed by Outback Subaru in Orange County.. The 356 Porsche has great performance now and is exempt from CA smog (its bonded and titled as 1956 Porsche). The car has been a lot of fun to drive, featuring a great power to weight ratio and it's never been raced or abused.

This was not a simple conversion or inexpensive to create. That said, I tried to capture the details of a vintage racing Porsche with retro refinements.

The car was road tested for dependability and safety after the conversion and has approximately 1000 miles on the new engine.

The exquisite interior has been designed with attention to details (burled walnut/mahogany/embroidery. Both, the convertible top and the tonto cover were created with German-made stay-fast canvas.

Interior is insulated with Heat/Sound Shield insulation under the carpets. Custom vintage style instrument cluster that gives it the original-look and complemented with comfortable low back 6 way Beard power seat.

The body is detailed and nicely crafted for show. Under the front hood is a highly polished aluminum 19 gallon fuel cell, additionally, there are 4 aluminum polished wheel wells. I have recently installed the stainless steelbumper-ettes with a front-end skid-bar for parking ties for safety.

Additionally the Alpine AM/FM equalizer radio was top of the line at the time the project started with power antenna.

The Porsche stands out in a crowd and is considerably less in the initialpurchase price and in operating expenses than the..common/average V8 Ford powered Cobras that are selling in the $65K range these days.

For that special person with similar interest, this is actually a bargain that is turn-key ready. I have been working with thesetypes of automotiveprojects for over 55 years and have earned a engineering degree and CAD credential.

The car is currently registered, insured, has a clear title and is suitable for future exposure in magazines/trade and SEMA shows.
