Summertime Special: 1977 Porsche 911S 3.0
Sunroof Coupe! Please wait a few moments while our high-resolution photos load.

Now that values of Porsche's 1964 - 1973 "long hood" models have risen into the stratosphere, enthusiasts who have to work for a living look at the next best thing: the narrow body impact-bumper cars, built between 1974 and 1977.

The final iteration of the "small bodied" Nine-Elevens, this '77 "S" Sunroof Coupe wears its characteristic 1970s high-impact color with pride.

Healthy like the proverbial ox, the car is straight as an arrow, perfectly rust and accident free, with a stunning leather interior, and bullet-proof mechanicals.

Manufactured 41 years ago, in March of 1977, this 911S Coupe, VIN *9117202249*, was sold new in the U.S. as one of just 3,388 such cars built for the model year. Yes, Porsche did not become a mass-producer until the beginning of the new millennium!
Let's take a closer look at this hand-built beauty now.

Spotlessly clean trunk features the original Josef-Beuys-memorial gray Filzmatte and a nice bra. Classy!

Remove the Matte and there's nothing but rust free, virginal sheetmetal. No damage at all to detect, anywhere. All 911s built after August, 1975 benefitted from the incredible THYSSEN full bodyshell zinc galvanizing process, all but eliminating Porsche's notorious rust problems.

Okay, spilled battery acid can corrode even galvanized metal -- not so here, though! All's well, even the battery tray.

Undercarriage is equally pristine. Hidden behind the racing-style front bumper valance is a large-capacity auxiliary oil cooler. It's always good to be cool, especially when Los Padres Forest back roads beckon, just a few miles from our doorstep.
Note stainless steel heat exchangers -- no thermal reactors here.

The classic 911 profile. Check out the opening quarter windows; this neat feature disappeared forever after the '77 model year. Fit and finish of all body panels is excellent. Early turbo-spoiler was added to house A/C components. Yes, the air conditioning does work on this early 911!

One of the most desirable options on any early Porsche Coupe must be the electric sunroof. This one works perfectly.

Classic FUCHS light alloy rims, optional equipment in 1977.

Factory light yellow ("hellgelb," code # 117) is a fantastic period safety color. An older repaint, this car can best be described as a "5-footer," as various imperfections become apparent upon very close inspection. Don't fret, though, this "S" elicits nothing but positive reactions from everyone who sees it on the road.

Porsche's classic cockpit remains in a state of fabulous preservation. There's a couple of hairline cracks on the dash, but that's it. We wouldn't change a thing!

Nice, leather-rimmed steering wheel. Gauges work as good as they look. Car has travelled about 170k miles, the 3.0 engine was installed approximately 40k miles ago.

Wonderful throne seats, covered in supple black leather.

You can almost smell the fine leather aroma.

Clean rear seat area.

Sexy rear. All lights work as intended.

Toothbrush-clean engine compartment houses the bullet-proof 3.0-liter Super Carrera engine # *6403778*.

There's no smoke, nor are there any leaks. The engine sounds fabulous with no unusual noises.
Note updated air conditioning system.

A picture is worth 1,000 words!

Another sunny day in our quaint hometown of San Buenaventura. Just right to take the 911S out for a little test run and photo session.

Ready to leave, looking good.

This Porsche starts, runs, idles, drives, handles and stops faultlessly. Check out the short video below.

Returning home. Good times!

This '77 911S is among the last narrow-bodied cars built in Zuffenhausen. With its fully galvanized body, electric sunroof, A/C, standard power brakes, and reliable dreiliter power, it provides a link to the 911SC while retaining the classic Schmali silhouette.

An example that's as interestingly optioned as this one must be of particularly strong interest to any real Porsche aficionado. We've priced it to move quickly - don't hesitate if you've got some summertime narrow-body motoring on your mind.
