OVERVIEW

The definition of polarizing – “to divide into sharply opposing factions, groups, etc.”I think there are generally three schools of thought when it comes to the “Slant Nose” Porsches - either:

1.You love it because it signifies everything the 1980s.

2.You hate it because it signifies everything the 1980s.

3.You love the motorsport tie-in with the Porsche 935, and cannot believe that you could order a car like this from the factory.

While the first racing Porsche 935s wore standard headlights, Norbert Singer poured over the rulebook for the race sanctioning bodies, and determined where the rule book could be pushed. They first installed "slant nose" fenders on the 935 for the 1976 1000km Nurburgring race in an effort to increase aerodynamic efficiency. The racing 935s were dominantly successful for many years, including an overall win at the 1979 24 Hours of LeMans.

This popularity of the race cars led to customers requesting “slant nose” fender conversions to their roadgoing Porsche 930s. Porsche fulfilled over 200 of these requests by the end of 1986 through their Sonderwunsch, or “Special Wishes” department. In 1987, Porsche decided to add the option to the factory production line cars, with options codes M505 (USA) and M506 (RoW).

These factory Slant Nose cars remained uncommon, as the M505/M506 options codes were very expensive choices. With just 609 US market cars (Coupes, Cabriolet, and Targas) produced over the three model years, the factory cars are indeed rare. More specific to our car here, the total 1987-1989 Turbo Cabriolet production was 229, with only 42 of those produced in 1987.

This factory Slant Nose Grand Prix White over Marine Blue leather Turbo Cab presents well in person. The color combination is tasteful and handsome. The car runs and drives well, and presents as a well-cared for two owner Porsche 930 with high degrees of originality throughout.

The first owner of this car was in the Seattle area, and the President of Olympic Boat Center. The car came through Bayside Porsche, a well-known Northwest Porsche dealer in the era. This car had “15 minutes of fame”, as it was used in the 1987 print catalog for The Bon Marche, a now defunct department store well known in the Seattle area.

Over the next 16 years, the first owner of the car had it regularly serviced at Bayside Porsche, and Squire’s Autowerke, while enjoying the car and accumulating 30,690 miles. The 2nd owner was a close friend of the first owner, and acquired the car in 2003 directly from him.She has only added 8,000 miles during her ownership period, verified with records.

The condition of this car is very good throughout, with a very high degree of originality. Original paint, original top (with new rear window recently installed), original interior – seats, carpet (with some UV fading – could easily update, but only original once!).Having had only two owners and limited mileage, the car has never been molested.

Mechanically, this car has undergone a full level of work in preparation for sale. An engine out service was performed to address some minor oil leaks and worn 2nd gear syncro gears in the transmission. Engine leak down was conducted on a stone cold motor on the bench, and were respectively - 8%, 6%, 6%, 8%, 6%, and 8%.Engine runs great with no smoke or leaks, and all emissions equipment is in place.

The convertible top was fully serviced (cables and motors) and adjusted while a new rear window was installed. New tires were wrapped around the freshly refinished Fuchs after a full wheel alignment was completed.

The original Window sticker ($102,513) states the following options, also confirmed by the COA:

·M505 – USA Slant Nose

·Fuchs Alloys finished in Grand Prix White

·Limited Slip Diff

·Heated Seats

·Sport Seats

·Luggage Compartment Black Velour
