1981 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Description:

This 1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo has 134k kilometers (~83k miles) and is a two owner example finished in Dark Blue Metallic with blueinterior. I acquired this T-top car 3 year ago from the second registered owner, and it is believed to have been on Vancouver Island since 1983, now in Florida, with a clean Florida title, Built during the final year of the second generation Fire bird, this T/A is powered by a turbocharged 301ci V8 paired a 3-speed automatic transmission. Updates completed during previous owner, include new rear calipers, machined rotors, brake fluid flush, repacked front wheel bearings, rebuilt carb, and an oil/filter change. Accompanying the car are an accident-free Car proof report and service records covering recent work.
The Dark Blue Metallic paint is described as all original, with a few minor touch-ups. The 11th digit “L” in the VIN indicates this Trans Am was assembled at the Van Nuys (LA) plant, where water-based paint was used due to tight California’s pollution regulations. This paint often failed and delaminated, and this is likely the cause of the paint loss visible on many panels. Small areas of rust are showing at the bottom and rear sill of the driver’s door.
The Trans Am was offered in 13 exterior colors, all coupled with iconic hood decal. the T-tops fit well, and the original stowage bags are included.
This Trans Am rides on 15″ Turbo finned alloy wheels (RPO N89), in good condition and showing some fading to the finish but no major scratches or scuffs. These wheels were originally offered only on turbocharged Trans Ams and Pace Car replicas, but later as an option on the whole Fire-birdline. Raised white-letter Motomaster tires are fitted all around, in old and cracked conditions.
The Dark Blue cloth seats with ribbed seating surfaces have held up fairly well for their age, with fabric loss on the rear passenger side rear and scratches to the molded seat backs. Carpets show some fraying at high wear areas such as the driver-side sill. Weather stripping around the door openings has deformed and/or been repaired poorly, and is ready for replacement.

The engine turned dash is a visual highlight and includes the “Radial Tuned Suspension” plaque between the tach and speedo. gauges are working correctly, as are the clock, factory AM/FM radio, and all interior and exterior lighting. The power windows are functioning, but power locks are not. Factory A/C is fitted and complete, and is believed to have been working until the drive belt was removed by the previousowner.
The trailing edge of the hood bulge contains the Turbo Boost Gauge of three lights that illuminate in sequence as the turbocharger’s boost pressure increases. This Gauge was an option on 1980 Trans Am turbosand standard equipment on 1981 cars, and is working correctly.
The turbocharged 301ci V8 was rated at 200 horsepower when new and came standard with a limited slip 3.08 rear end. The $350 turbo package (RPO LU8) was offered only with automatic transmission and was not available in California, though many were assembled there. No inter-cooler was fitted, with the turbo blowing directly through a 4-barrel carb, and the air/fuel mixture electronically controlled by GM’s early Computer Command Control. The carb could use fine tuning, butthe engine is running well with the turbo contributing a notable whine as it spools.
Under body images show surface corrosion to some areas of the frame, exhaust, and drive line, nothing major.
