Stock #: A445 Exterior Color: Lucerne Blue Interior Color: Black Transmission: Automatic Fuel Type: Gas Engine: 455 HO Title Condition: Clear Back in 1971, due to rising insurance rates, gas shortages & EPA regulations, American automobile companies were winding down on building high-horsepower muscle cars. The end was coming on quickly, but Pontiac tried to keep the dream alive for a couple of more years w/ their Trans Am & GTO ‘The Judge’ cars leading the way. In 1969, Pontiac built (6,725) GTO Judge hardtops and (108) GTO Judge convertibles, while in 1970 they built (3,629) GTO Judge hardtops and (168) GTO Judge convertibles. By 1971, the final year for 'The Judge', production was a fraction of what it once was w/ only (357) GTO Judge hardtop coupes and a mere (17) GTO Judge convertibles produced. Hardtop Coupe! This ‘71 Judge is an absolute show-stopper folks! A 3-year comprehensive nut & bolt rotisserie restoration was just completed in May 2019, and the final result is nothing short of breathtaking. This Judge retains all of its 100% original sheet metal, its original numbers-matching driveline, and all of the factory original documentation from day one. Originally purchased new @ Don Center Pontiac in Kentland, Indiana, on January 12, 1971 to Mr. Alan Whiteman, this Judge has seen only three owners its entire life. Mr. Whiteman traded the Judge back in to Don Center Pontiac after owning it only about a year, and it was then purchased by Mr. Lloyd Marcum, who owned the car all the way from 1972 to 2015. He sold the car in 2015 to the third owner who then performed the 3-year six-figure rotisserie restoration that you are looking at now. Finished in its factory original (Code 26) Lucerne Blue wrapped around (Code 69) Black Vinyl Bucket Seat trim, original factory options include: (WT1) The Judge Option Package, (M40) Turbo-Hydramatic 400 Transmission, (WV) 3.55 12-Bolt Posi-traction Rear Axle, (Y96) Ride & Handling Package, (D55) Front Console, (PK5) Goodyear G70x14 Polyglas Tires, (U63) Pushbutton AM Radio, (U57) Stereo 8-Track Tape Player, (W63) Rally Gauge Cluster w/ Clock, (U85) Hood-Mounted Tachometer, (D34) Vanity Mirror-Visor, (N41) Variable-Ratio Power Steering, (JL2) Power Brakes w/ Front Discs, (N33) Tilt Steering Column, (A01) Soft-Ray Glass All Windows, (832) Floor Mats Front, and (833) Floor Mats Rear. You will not find a more perfect & correct rotisserie restoration than the job that was done on this car, period. Again, all of the 100% rust-free sheet metal is original to the car and is absolutely laser straight from front to back. The Lucerne Blue paint was buffed & polished to a mirror-like shine and is simply gorgeous throughout, and all of the chrome & stainless trim is in show quality condition. The correct Judge stripes and 455 H.O. decals are of course in place. She sits on the original Rally II wheels (trim ring delete) wrapped w/ Goodyear G70x14 WL Polyglas tires just like did when she left the factory. I'm sure you will notice the chrome bezels on the front turn signal lenses are from a '72 GTO, but I left them on because I like the way they look. They come right off w/ four little screws if it really bothers you. You can walk around this Judge a thousand times and you will not find a bad angle. The restoration on this car is simply stellar! The undercarriage of this ‘71 Judge is 100% show-ready and is as nice as the topside of the car, complete w/ hang tags and markings (please look at the chassis photos of this Judge to see how much attention was given to detail).
Open the driver’s door and you will find a ‘perfect’ black vinyl bucket seat interior that looks exactly like it did 48 years ago when it sat on the Don Center Pontiac’s showroom floor. Every single item was addressed during the restoration process and all of the original gauges, hood-tach, lights, blinkers, wipers, AM pushbutton radio, 8-track tape player, etc. are in perfect working condition. Even the lighter pops out hot! Absolutely nothing needs to be addressed. I have a brand new set of (4) OEM-style black floor mats that go w/ the car as well. Of course, the trunk area is completely restored including the correct trunk mat, spare wheel/spare tire, and correct jack assembly.
Now, let’s get to the really important stuff, shall we?
Pop open the hood and nestled inside the beautifully detailed engine bay you will find the original numbers-matching 455 H.O. motor w/ correct YE stamp and partial VIN stamp, linked to the original numbers-matching TH400 automatic transmission (Code PQ) w/ the partial VIN stamp, which feeds power to the original numbers-matching 3.55 12-bolt Posi-traction rear end (Code WV). Not only is the block original to the car, but also the heads, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, carburetor, distributor, etc. are all born-with components. I would be happy to send photos of the various stampings to any serious buyer, but will not entertain tire kickers. She fires up instantly, idling at around 1400 rpm, until it warms up and settles into about an 800 rpm idle, and she runs, drives & performs beautifully in every way. If you have never experienced a 455 H.O. Pontiac, you will be absolutely blown away by the 480 Lbs. Ft./Torque that they deliver. These cars are very, very fast, especially for 1971.
