Description:

1978 Pontiac Trans Am Bandit SE

1978 Pontiac Trans Am Bandit
Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my car. This Bandit Trans Am is theculmination of a lot of time, money, and hard work..... to bring to life one of the finest and most famous moviecars and one of the nicest you will ever have the chance to add to your collection. This Bandit is as close to the movie car as you can get even down to the Correct Pace 166 Cb and Pace 10-4 Scanner which was signed by Mr. Burt Reynolds. A Cb and Scanner set just recently at an auction signed by Burt brought $25k alone. This is a brand new build frame off nut and bolt restoration so you willbe the first to reap the rewards of the show circuit if you choose to show it. If you have been looking forthe nicest example of a Bandit you can find, you can stop looking, because this car is of the highestquality available, and was built to the best standards money can buy, so rest assured that this one is secondto none. This is an elite automobile in every way.
This Trans Am is equipped with the very rare and desirable W72 High Performance T/A 6.6 Engine with Auto Transmission. Code 19 Starlight Black and Black Deluxe Int. These Cars are going Crazy on the market and here's your chance to be like Mr Burt Reynolds AKA the Bandithimself.
If you look at the photos, you'll notice the outside and underside of this car is one is a step above most classic cars. Every single nut and bolt on this car is either new or restored. The entire suspension was disassembled, cleaned, stripped, repainted, and reassembled. All new shocks, all new springs, all new bushings, brakes, booster, fuel lines, brake lines, seats, seat backs, seatbelts, horn button, steering wheel, bezel, windshield, fluid jugs, wheels, grills, decals, paint, floormats, doorpanels, visors, interior, rebuilt motor, overhauled trans, glass, bolts, screws, carpet, headliner, pkg tray, headlight, horn, gas tank, fisher plates, weather stripping, etc etc.......the list goes on and on. I think you get the point and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I can say with complete confidence that this car is cleaner underneaththan any 2020 model yearcar sitting on any car lot in the USA. This car runs and drives like a new Vette.
Everyone that ever saw Smokey And The Bandit knows what this car is, and everyone that saw it wantedone! There's just something about the black and gold Special Edition Trans Am flying across thecountry, being piloted by the outlaw "Bandit" Burt Reynolds and his lady friend "Frog" Sally Fields, out-running the police, having fun, and showing off. These cars are instantly recognizable and an iconic partof both movie and automotive history. That is why they are so sought after today. They continue to rise invalue and will always be in demand.I wanted to build the most solid and beautiful Bandit Trans Am possible, so I looked all over for the mostsolid, clean candidateavailable. It was alwaysgarage kept and pampered, so the body was in pristine condition. The car was completely disassembleddown to a bare body shell, stripped to bare metal, and literally every single nut, bolt, and screw waspainstakingly restored to the #1, concours condition Bandit Trans Am that you see here. The carexemplifies perfection in every way. The underneath of the car is as clean and as detailed as the top sideis. No expense was spared, and no detail was overlooked. Every square inch of this car has been goneover with a microscope and restored to perfection. This Trans Am is even better than the one you couldbuy off the assembly line in 1978.

The thing that Hollywood (and GM) didn't want you to know back then, was that in real life, the SpecialEdition Trans Am "Bandit" was only putting out around 200 horsepower....so unfortunately, it wasn't really that fast compared to the muscle cars of the 60's and early 70's. Even the most pedestrian cars oftoday routinely put out more than 200 horsepower. This particular Bandit doesn't suffer from that lack of power. It was built to look totally stock, but it is a real wolf in sheep's clothing! This one features a 6.6Litre, 400 cubic inch W72 block, with Pontiac #62 heads, bringing compression up. It also features a Pontiac "068" Ram Air III camshaft with Ram Air III factory header-style exhaust manifolds, exiting intoa full stainless steel Pypes 2.5 inch "X" crossover dual exhaust system. I also had a custom shaker systembuilt so that the engine breathes cold air through the scoop in the hood as the early 70's Trans Ams did.
The carburetoris a brand new Jet Performance Stage II Q-Jet, and also features a new billet aluminumdistributor. The original TH-350 transmission was completely rebuilt and features a shift kit and aseparateauxiliarycooling system. Basically, what all of this means is that this engine puts out literallyDOUBLE the power of the Trans Am from 1978! It has tons of power and loads of torque......and most importantly, the sound is simply exquisite. It revs up so fast and smooth that it almost has an exotic toneto it. Needless to say, you will garner plenty of attention everywhere you go!The Black Deluxe interior of this car is completely brand new from the top to the bottom. The headliner is brand new. The carpet and door panels are new. Most of the interior plastic was replaced with all newunits. All the seat covers are new, of course. Even the seat belts are all brand new. The steering wheel is new and it andthe dash bezel are both dyed in the rich, beautiful gold tint that all the Special Edition Trans Am feature.
The radio is the original, working AM/FM unit. All of the lights and gauges work properly. The courtesy lights all work, including the original map lights. The clock works, and even the darn key buzzer works. The one thing that you will notice upon sitting inside this Bandit, is that the car literally SMELLS like abrand new car......which it is!
As for the exterior of the car, what can you say except, it's absolutely stunning. I spent over $20k alone on paint. Car was stripped, blocked, worked, sanded, primed, blocked sanded, primed, based, sanded, based, cleared, sanded, cleared, sanded and the buffed all the way back to 5000. The Starlight Black painthas a deep, reflective look that is perfectly accented with the beautiful Special Edition "German Gothic"lettering and the miles of golden stripe that was all a part of the package, but it's the golden firebreathingPhoenix on the hood that is the iconic feature that everyone knows and loves.
The original Snowflakewheels were sent out and restored to factory condition on a lathe. The tires are brand new.All of the door hingesand latches were rebuilt and restored so the doors open and shut nicely. The hood opens and closes easily. The trunk clicks open and shut easily.
Of course, there is no rust. There are no dents. There are no chipsor scratches. It is literally perfect in every way.
All in all, this Bandit Trans Am is one of the nicest ones availablein the world today. You can look around to try to find a nicer one, but you won't. You can spend thousands of dollars and years to hope tobuild one like it.....but why not skip all the stress and just enjoy yourself now? You can drive it like theBandit himself and use every bit of the 400 horsepower. The choice will be up to you.....but whatever you decide to do withthis Bandit Trans Am, you will definitelyhave plenty of fun!
