1978 Pontiac Trans Am Description:

1978 Pontiac Trans Am - 400 Van Nuys Engine - T-Tops - Newly Rebuilt - SHARP!

I am relisting my Trans Am after the high bidder refused to comply with any of the auction directions. He actually has this car listed on his website for sale right now at $22,000. How he intends to sell it in Mundelein, Illinois when I have the title and the car here in Idaho, I do not know but there it is. I have NO RESERVE on this auction! The deposit is fully refundable should the deal not be completed. I ask that the high bidder contact me after the auction ends so we can work out the details on it being picked up (simple phone call works best). I have the clear title in hand and ready to transfer. I wish the payment to be by certified check, money order or PayPal. When the buyer picks up the car, the deal is done. I ordered the original papers from PHS. This was purchased new in Phoenix, Arizona on 04-11-1978. It spent it's whole life in Arizona. The engine and transmission are original to the car, the engine is the Pontiac 400 built in Van Nuys. The invoice copy from PHS shows it had air conditioning, power windows, tilt steering wheel and other options, the MSRP was $8,066.00 and the invoice total was $6,915.07. Invoice shows it was a Firebird Trans Am, it was Cameo White with Camel Tan Lombardy interior. My buddy bought it when he was living in Phoenix and commenced to having it rebuilt, starting with the mechanicals. The engine is newly rebuilt, bored, new cams, new pistons, water pump, transmission rebuilt, new torque converter, new brakes, new front end, new starter, basically everything under the hood. Transmission is original, newly rebuilt and shifts smoothly, power steering is also smooth. My buddy bought a business in Idaho and moved, leaving the Trans Am behind to be finished up in Arizona. When the mechanics were done it was taken to the body shop. This is where things went south. The body shop guy kept asking for more and more money and delays were constant. After 2 years and about 10 grand spent with the body guy, my buddy figured something was not right. He sent word he was coming to get the car and for the body guy to have it ready. Turns out much of the body work that was supposed to be done was not. Things that had been paid for were not ordered. An argument ensued, my buddy loaded it up and brought it to Idaho. He got disgusted and the next thing I knew, I owned a Trans Am. I have driven it maybe 100 miles, I live out in the mountains here in Idaho and have to drive a bit to get on good roads, am always afraid I am going to bottom out on the roads close to home. So, it is here on ebay waiting for the new owner to take it and have some fun. I took it to an old school mechanic friend and he checked it over, put new fluids in, flushed the radiator and got it ready for winter here. He verified that everything looked brand new under the hood and underneath. It has not been out of the garage except to town to get gas, has not been in the rain or snow. It starts and runs great, sounds awesome. I have gone to town in it a few times and it turns heads constantly. I noticed some transmission fluid drops on the floor, my mechanic told me he found no problems other than it needs to be driven and broken in, I doubt it has even 100 miles on it yet. I put a new Napa Legend battery in it before winter. The car runs great and you can drive it home. It needs the fine details completed, you can tell the body trim was a rush job, the windows need adjusted, things need tightened up and done right. The body is solid with zero rust that I can find, it spent it's whole life in Arizona. The mileage showing is supposed to be original, the car does appear to be low mileage. The power windows work, need adjusted. There is no evidence of it ever being wrecked. The T-tops function smoothly, I have never had it out in the rain but I don't think they leak. There is a Pioneer MixTrax CD player installed. The tachometer, oil pressure, water temperature and volts gauges are working. The clock, speedometer and gas gauges are not working, I don't think they are hooked up. The interior is new but not a professional looking job, also done by the scoundrel body man. The rims and tires are brand new, tires are Nankang 275/40R18 99H. The air conditioner is not hooked up but present, I don't know if it works or not. My friend told me he spent over 20 grand on this car with half of the money going to the body guy. Unfortunately he does not have the receipts for all the work done. I am offering it at NO RESERVE. A 500 dollar deposit by PayPal is required within 24 hours of auction end. Full payment within 1 week by cashier check or money order. I can store it for you in my garage for as long as you need, you can fly in or ride in and drive this one home if you choose. I will not be available for pick up from July 11 through July 22. Hopefully the buyer can pick it up before then. Buyer must arrange delivery, I will help with loading or if you want to drive it home, will meet you in town and fill the gas tank for you, I live just outside Grangeville, Idaho. Title is clean and ready to transfer. Good luck!
