FIRST GENERATION GTO SPORT COUPE.Backyard find here in Seattle. West Coast car I bought 2 years ago from the 3rd owner who had her for the last 18 years. The original blue paint is under a coat of black primer. To get it running I had a new clutch installed for the 4 speed manual transmission there is also a new exhaust and stainless steel brake lines. Had the front buckets and rear seat re-upholstered to concours level by one of the top Seattle upholstery companies (Durhams). New carpet kit, new Holley carburetor. She starts runs and stops but will need a lot of work to be restored. The electrical system/harness looks new but needs work. Has the sought after tachometer dash. Only 7000 of these were ever made and only a handful of those are left as unrestored west coast examples with minimal rust. This is your dream car waiting to be realized.Nice thing is that the bones are excellent, very little rust, a true sought after west coast vehicle that has never seen salted roads. Solid and original panels and floor pans. This is a GREAT start to an amazing project. If these GTOs are restored to #1 concours the book value is $70,000! Jay Leno recently stated that the first generation GTO is the most appreciating muscle car on the planet. So get this one for less than a new KIA.Engine is a period correct Pontiac Big Block but probably needs attention or rebuild, do not know the history of the engine but it is not original to the car. Car was originally a 3 speed manual but now has the much more desirable period correct 4 speed that shifts smooth and tight.We have many parts to help complete the project and what we have will come with the car including door panels, dash pad and AM radio. We have a lot of new trim as well. Please ask questions before purchase. This is an as-is transaction with no returns. The package included a 325-horse 389 V-8, stiffer suspension and a Hurst-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Among popular options was a Muncie four-speed a 348-horse Tri-Power 389 topped by three Rochester two-barrel carbs.

The 1965 GTO was marked by stacked headlights and a single hood scoop in place of the dual units seen in 1964. The 389 V-8 was superseded by an enlarged 400 cubic-inch mill in 1967. Both 1966’s base 389 and 1967’s 400 were rated at 335 horsepower. Tri-Power was last offered in 1966.

Performance enhancements included a dealer-offered “tub” introduced in August 1965. It sealed the Tri-Power V8’s carbs to a functional hood scoop, in the process kicking off Pontiac’s legendary “Ram Air” legacy. A special “XS” performance package, including the division’s first so-called Ram Air V-8, appeared in 1966. Output for 1967’s rare Ram Air 400 was 360 horsepower.
