1940 Plymouth P10 Club Coupe
Presenting in retina searing yellow, this 1940 Plymouth P10 Club Coupe now on consignment has become a streetrod. Some shaving, some customization for the exterior, nice chrome trimmings and striking modern interior, this rodder is one for the record books. a ZZ4 V8 crate mill, stopping with 4 wheel power disc brakes and turning with power assist for the rack and pinion steering we are in full blown street rod heaven, let me grab my Luckys and roll them up in my shirt sleeve, we're going for a cruise!
Exterior
In 1940, Plymouth's advantage was modern styling, and few body styles are more attractive than this P10 coupe. The pointed nose with smoothly integrated headlights was new that year, and the squared-off trunk makes it instantly recognizable from behind as a Chrysler product. The finish is glaringly yellow and is set off by some custom pinstriping atop each front fender. Details like the front grille, the vents on the hood, and all the stainless trim make this handsome Plymouth appear to be a far more upscale car than its original sticker price might suggest. Frenched in headlights and slit-like LED tail lights keep the smooth look flowing and the workmanship is very good, with doors that fit precisely, great gaps on the pointed hood, and plenty of attention to detail in getting the trim to fit right. The running boards have been shaved off, as have the bumpers for effect, and it works! Keeping this all grounded are polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels in 15-inch format wrapped in staggered width blackwall radials.
Interior
Back in the '40s, traveling salesmen cruised the back roads of the country in their coupes like this one, some of which traded the back seat for massive storage in the trunk. This car is equipped with the rear seat option and even so it gives this Plymouth an intimate interior for four, in the new form of a leather and broadcloth covered front bench and matching rear full bench. Snappy contrasting teal and sky blue arches have been stitched into the broadcloth giving a real street rod feel. These seats are fronted by a custom dash retaining its full metal jacket painted yellow to match the exterior, and sporting a peppering of antique cream faced TPI Instruments gold bezel gauges. Just below is a padded insert panel for the AM/FM/CD stereo and vents for the non-connected Vintage Air and heat system. A polished and adjustable column supports the billet rally style steering wheel and added conveniences include power steering, power brakes, power windows that move lightly tinted glass up and down. A tight tan headliner is above, and the door panels use vertically stitched tan broadcloth panels to work with brown carpeted lowers and beige vinyl inserts, again with the 2-tone blue and aqua stitched arch. Brown carpeting is on the floors and a Lokar shifter grows from the carpet to the driver's right hand. 
Drivetrain
A 350ci ZZ4 355hp Chevrolet crate V8 with its industrial look in shades of muted black with polished bolt ons, and matte hoses showing slight age, the engine has an overall very clean and industrial/machine age quality, that I really think looks fab! This mill is fed by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and TH350 3-speed automatic transmission on back with a 3.08 geared Ford 9" axle turning the rear tires.
Undercarriage
An all buttoned up and structurally sound X frame and solid floor pans and rockers make up the bottom of this rod. It's all looking solid with independent coil springs upfront and leaf springs for the rear and now power disc brakes on all 4 corners. A like new exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers is bolted on and snakes its way from front to rear.
Drive-Ability
A comfortable interior provides lots of conveniences that work perfectly when we fire up this Plymouth. Off to the test track, (yup it's one of the hazards of the job, but I must confide fun with my decoder and muscle car expert and partner in crime yapping as we go along), where this car performed swimmingly with a smooth ride and good cruising. A few non functional items to note are the heater and AC not being hooked up, the wipers not wiping, the horn not honking and a very notable miss in the engine that does not clear up with increased rpm.
The look has been achieved with the brighter than the sun yellow paint, totally custom interior and the ZZ4 crate engine under the hood. All presenting well, and a not oft seen hot rodded Plymouth certainly holds its own.
