If you are looking for a low mileage, rust free, Southern California car that has never been apart, and comes with documentation and a very sad but interesting story, this may be the project for you.
In 1991, my father and I bought this '66 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S. It had only 45,000 on the odometer and was near perfect, except for some rough bodywork and poor paint work. The interior was mint and it smelled like a new car. The car even came with a bunch of documentation... including the original window sticker. It was loaded up with options (A/C - very rare for a Barracuda, automatic, disc brakes, extra cost "special buffed" silver paint, center painted stripe, "wood" sport steering wheel etc). Dad loaned it to a "friend" who had no money but "needed a car to drive." I still remember the argument I had with him and how I tried in vain to explain why this was a very bad idea. 2,000 miles later the guy drove it into a tree. To make matters worse, it was then stored in my father's storage building. The loser my dad had watching the building had sons who stole three of our cars. This was one of them. They pried open the trunk with a crow bar to gain access (why they didn't drill out the lock cylinder is beyond me! Maybe no drill???), and removed the following parts: the wheel covers, taillights, Formula S emblems, fender turn signals, Barracuda nameplates on the inside of the doors, the grille emblem, panel at the base of the rear window, Plymouth letters on the deck lid, ignition switch, and the air cleaner/oil filler cover. (None of the parts are hard to find and reproduction parts are available. The thieves also took the original black and gold license plates, Goodyear Blue Streak spare tire that had never been on the ground, the certicard and the fender tag. The car was recovered years later after sitting outside and getting baked by the sun. It hasn't been driven in 27 years. Dad passed away and gave this to me. Well... it's more like he left it behind for me... as my name was on the title. Before listing it, I decided to check if the engine turned over. It did not. It's frozen. The cylinders are soaking as I write this... and I will update the auction if that status changes. The whole thing makes me sick, because it was a really good car that got dealt a bad hand.
It's a great project and will be an incredible car when it's done. Or a parts car if you want the disc brakes, sway bar, tachometer, 14" wheels, A-body A/C unit, rear axle, etc. I can't bring myself to part it out since I remember how nice it was. Right now, that perfect car only lives in my memories. I just don't want a constant reminder of my dad's poor decisions and what those thieves did to a perfectly good car.
Contact me with any questions. The auction will go the distance. There is no reserve.
Good luck and happy bidding!
