1935 OLDSMOBILE F-35 Coupe

I acquired this car in 2011 from an older gentleman in Toms River New Jersey.He had spent quite a few years restoring it. He left the body on the chassis but removed all of the fenders, repaired any rust and painted it the metallic red.

I had been looking for over 10 years for a 1935 Oldsmobile or Pontiac for my collection and found this to be a suitable option.The interior upholstery was done by a shop in New Jersey and was done professionally. The trunk was also fully upholstered. It was a running and driving car when I purchased it. I have spent much time, money and love bringing this resto mod along to its present condition. About three months ago I ordered and installed a Currie 9" Ford rear end with 3.50 gear ratio posi-traction. The cost of the rear end was $3200.00. At the same time I had a 350 Chevy engine completely rebuilt. It has a mild RV cam, a GM performance intake manifold, block hugger headers, HEI distributor, a larger Holly carb (rebuilt), a new water pump etc. Estimated Horsepower is 300. This was all done by my local machine shop and it runs VERY strong and has plenty of power. The transmission is a GM 700R4 with hydraulic shift and a shift kit installed. The shifter is a LOKAR brand. The independent front end was standard on a 1935 Olds. My mechanic rebuilt it with new control arm bushings & center link bushing. The lever action shocks were professionally rebuilt as was the rear sway bar assembly at a cost of over $1000.00. The heater was rebuilt but not have the facia cover. All five tires are new Coker Classic radials with tubes. The size of the tires is 700R16. The spare is mounted behind the passenger's seat. I had a custom gauge panel made with an old school eyebrow and had that powder coated super chrome and then an engine turned decal added. The gauges are Autometer white face gauges. All of the gauges work properly except the gas gauge. I believe the problem is in the sending unit. Early in the restoration I had the gas tank removed from the car, split in half, restored and coated. The large banjo steering wheel is from a 1936 Buick and was restored, painted red and a new custom Olds horn cap fabricated. The hubcaps were removed, restore, chromed and then hand lettered by a local old skool sign painter with the Oldsmobile logo....and they get lots of comments at a car show. The paint is about 12 years old and I would say about a 7.5 out of a 10. We have touched up areas on the back of the headlights and a few places on the body. The dash paint has also been touched up. The art deco stripes are hand painted by a sign painter in imitation gold color. We just installed a new stainless steel hood hinge when the motor was rebuilt.

The 1935 GM cars were a one year only Body by Fischer with suicide doors. Previous to 1935 the GM engineers designed the cars appearance. 1935 was the first years of Harley Earl and the GM art and color department. This coupe epitomizes the ART DECO look of the 1930's movement. Many features were one year only....like the striking art deco "Baseball" tail lights and the "Dumb Bomb" hood ornament on the Oldsmobile. The standard 6 cylinder tail light lenses were replaced with the more desirable center dot 8 cylinder pieces. This is a rare car....but I am sure you probably know that already.

Here are the things I think need to be done to further the restoration:

The exterior door handles and rear deck lid handles need to be removed and re-chromed.

The window regulator on the driver's door needs to be replaced with a correct one, it works fine but appears to have been adapted because of the later model GM un-matching window crank. It functions fine but cosmetically needs to be correct.

The fuel gauge or sender needs to be fixed or replaced.

The passenger's side windshield wiper post needs to be replaced. Late week when we had the car clay bared and waxed they broke it off in error. We have the broken part inside the glove box.

For perfection the deck lid needs to be adjusted in the center...it functions fine but could look better.

The brake system was completely rebuilt including all wheel cylinders, master cylinder and brake lines and shoes. It stops fine but an upgrade to power assist brakes would be nice.

The grill and dumb bomb hood ornament could be re-chome plated to show condition.

I am selling this car because I am getting my classic car and truck collection down to a manageable level.

This car was made to be a very nice driver but nice enough to show also. It's not a trailer queen.
