1950 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Description:

1950 Oldsmobile Futuramic - Rocket "88"
A beautiful blast from the past. A very solid car, lovingly cared for by the previous owner since 1973.Always garage kept, well maintained & pampered. Receiving 2 restorations by the previous owner during the 45 years that he enjoyed it.The car has the legendary 303 V-8 Rocket motor, which is said to have launched the Muscle Car wars of Detroit. The engine is tight and sounds incredible. The transmission is the 4 speed Hydra-matic and shifts through all the gears as it should. If you've ever owned an antique car, then you know they all leak. This one will surprise you. The transmission isn't leaking a drop & the engine after sitting in my garage for months, might leak as much as a tea spoon of oil. Both the motor & the transmission are clean & tight needing only basic preventative maintenance for now. ( same goes for the rear end )The pictures speak 1000 words as far as the exterior condition goes. The car is what I'd call a 20' footer. The interior was redone about 10 years ago & still looks new.Everything about the car has been tastefully done & kept stock. Notice the Coker Classic Whitewalls. It still has the original 6 volt system and can be a little tough to start after its been sitting up, but once you get it going it easily re-starts over & over again.Amazingly, all of the factory gauges are still working & reading accurately. Some things that need work that I'd like to mention are the following...
  • The radiator needs to be re-cored. It's old and doesn't work well for long. The engine starts to run on the hot side after about 30 minutes of driving. If you try to push it too far, it will over heat. I don't run it more than 20 minutes at a time.
  • The shocks are worn out. It will need new shocks.
  • The front end has more slop than it should. I believe the front end needs to be rebuilt.
  • The original turtle back carburetor could use a good cleaning or maybe a rebuild. The car runs fine but you have to feather the throttle & you can't romp on it.
