1972 Oldsmobile 442 Viking Blue W-30 Convertible Description:

1972 Viking Blue Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme/442 W-30 Convertible being sold with "No Reserve"!!!!!!!!!!

If you have been looking for that classic muscle car investment then thisrareClassic Muscle CarConvertible just may have your name on it! These 1970's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. Remember, when the top goes down the price goes up! This Olds does have a Rocket 455 engine like mostly every 442 guy I know wants to have. Mostly all of the components on this engine are believed to be the original parts to the engine. The engine was nicely detailed and even still has the original A-arm covers still on the inner fender wells.
I am a judge at Olds Nationals, so I do know a great deal about 442's. I purchased this car out of Virginia, so this convertible was never subjected to the salt of the Midwest winters. I will explain everything I found out from the prior owner. He had owned and enjoyed this rare Viking Blue convertible for the last 16 years, and decided it was time for someone else to enjoy it. When he made the purchase and had the car registered on 8/29/2002 the car only had 35,500 original miles as shown on the Virginia title in the very last picture. This car was carefully treated to only another 35,000 miles over the past 16 years. The mileage on the body is believed to be original at just over 70,000 original miles. This is a very clean car that was only treated to one repaint about a decade ago. It would be very hard to pick out any imperfections on the body. Obviously the prior owner well cared for this classic. He told me it was always his pride and joy. Many people may consider this a show car, but me being an Olds Nationals judge I will not make that statement. I will say it is a wonderful running and driving daily driver type of muscle car. With each passing year it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a Viking Blue 442 convertible with white bucket seats and a white convertible top. Everyone who knows these cars knows how this color and interior combination is one of the most desirable combo's to find.
This Olds starts right up and drives down the road beautifully. I was told that the Rocket 455 engine came out of a 1970 442 and that is why it has E-heads, which are the high performance heads made by Oldsmobile in 1970. There is a newer alternator and a newer four core radiator. The winning bidder will most likely have endless thumbs up wherever they drive. You should have an outgoing personality to drive a car like this, because everywhere you go people will be attracted to you like a magnet.
The options on thisOldsmobileinclude Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, Power Convertible Top, Dual Matching Sport Mirrors, Cut-out back bumper, Chrome Trumpet exhaust tips, Front and Rear Sway bars, Tinted Glass, Bucket Seats, Console, Super Stock I Wheels, Sport Steering Wheel, Tic-Toc-Tac, and Air Conditioning. The air compressor is present and everything appears to be all hooked up except the a/c belt. With the condenser in front of the radiator I don't believe it would take all that much for the new owner to make it fully functional once again. The past owner never used the a/c because he only took the car out in top down weather only. Getting the a/c controls functioning will be left up to the new owner if they so desire.
This convertible does have a genuine GM ram-air hood with the factory screen underneath. The functioning ram-air air cleaner is also genuine GM made. The whale tail is mounted properly on the rear trunk deck lid to add to the 442 experience. The nice white convertible top was replaced several years ago, so it is in very good condition with no rips or tears and features theglass back window option. All the padding and the well liner were replaced at that time. The top goes up and down very nicely through the switch on the dash. The doorsstill open and closelike back in 1972.
There are a very comfortable pair of bucket seats in very good condition with a nice console shifter. The entire interior is in relatively nice condition as evident by the pictures. There is also a full set of seat belts present for a family of five. All of the factory decals were replaced in the correct spots in the engine compartment, and under the trunk lid to make this car appear factory correct like in 1972.
According to the OldsFaqs websiteonly 1,025 of the Cutlass Supreme/442 convertible models were made with an automatic transmission in 1972. They said whether this model is a real 442 or a converted Cutlass Supreme it is still considered to be like a real 442 if it is converted properly. If it were a real W-30 it would have an X in the vehicle identification number. The red fender wells that were notorious on the 70 and 71 W-30 models were only red on the very first 10 1972 W-30's that rolled off the assembly line in December of 1971, so the prior owner left the original black fender wellson this car to make it appear proper for a W-30 look-a-like in 1972. I'll give a little background on the 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass S,and 442 models. Prior to the 1972 model year the vehicle identification numbers in all 442's started out with 344. That was the way to determine whether that specific car was ordered from the dealershipas a true442. This is easily verified by the OldsFaqs website that anyone can look up online. The 442 could be ordered as a separate model up until 1971. Oldsmobile decided to make the 442 an ordered option starting in 1972.
The OldsFaqs website made the statement that there is no such thing as a fake 442 in 1972. All 1972 442 convertible models started life as a Cutlass Supreme, since the 442 was an ordered option. Whether the car was factory ordered as a 442, or dealer installed, or a private owner installed all the 442 options, they are all considered Cutlass Supreme or Cutlass S bodies. This is why all 1972 442 convertibles have Cutlass Supreme on the glove box door, and all 442 hardtops have just plain Cutlass on the glove box door.
The front and the rear floor pans are the originals on this car, and really look in nice condition. This car has been garage kept for the entire time the prior owner owned this convertible. He is believed to be the second owner. The black carpeting was recently changed with the extra sound deadening padding, so it appears like new. There is aset of fourbrand new black deluxe carpetedfloor mats.
The grille's are original 442 grille's not aftermarket replacements and the chrome is all in very nice condition and the front and rear bumpers were replaced. The sweet cut-out 442 rear bumper has the awesome factory dual chrome trumpet exhaust tips. This car has a nice factory rumble with dual exhaust.
This Olds rides ona set of four Bridgestone raised white lettered steel belted radial tires on Super Stock I wheels with all fourbolt-on center caps, all four beauty trim rings, and all new 20 chrome lug nuts.
This convertible has front and rear sway bars and there is a 10-bolt rear-end,but I am unaware of the gear ratio. The original trunk floor is in very nice condition and was coated with A/C Delco black and aquaspatter spray for the trunkto stay in nice condition for many years to come. The trunkcarries a full size fifth Super StockI spare wheel, and the nicely restored originaljack, jack stand, bumper mount, and crow bar. This way if there is ever a mishap on the road with a quick tire change you can be back on the road in minutes looking complete. The original dash pad is in very good condition with no cracking. There is an aftermarket AM/FM Cassette Player in the dash, but is not hooked up. I'm sure the new owner will want to upgrade the stereo sound system, but having a cassette player was what was in vogue back in those days. With the 442 sport wheel steering these carsis simply a delight. The 1972 Cutlass/442 owner's manual is in near pristine condition and will be included inside the glove compartment.
This sale is being made with a clean and clear Virginia title. These older classics that have survived for over 45 years are becoming harder and harder to find in this condition.
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1972 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible with the Rocket 455 and air conditioning listed at $78,000 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
They have the average condition listed as $52,520, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
Nada hasthe lowest condition value at $33,540 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
If this Viking Blue Convertible were a true W-30 the Nada Classic Car Guide value in high condition would be $96,000. They have the average condition W-30 Convertible listed at $64,640. and the lowest condition listed at $41,280. Why not own a similar looking beauty for a fraction of those prices?
The Nada numbers don't lie! These Classic Iconic Oldsmobile Muscle Car Convertible's are extremely valuable.
