1959 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Description:

1959 OLDSMOBILE SUPER 88 “CLASSY RAT ROD” ALL ORIGINAL CAR
This is not your typical Midwest rust bucket. This is not your typical rusty, parts missing, vandalized looking 50’s Rat Rod. This car did come from the Midwest, HOWEVER, it never saw salted roads. This carcame from a very rural area that had dirt roads, and used sand for the few paved roads in winter, as was proof by the amount of fine sand we found in the oil/grease mix that came out of the nooks and crannies of the frame when we cleaned the underside, and the fact that the floor pans are not rusted out, it has some surface rust on the ORIGINAL sheet metal on the underside, but as you can see in the photos, this looks like a Arizona classic underneath. The body has some rust spots showing through the 2nd paint job that was done a few years before we bought it, and the rear bumper has some chrome peelingin the areas where snow would collect and/or sit. We have owned it for about 6 years, have enjoyed driving it and all the attention it gets since this body style is rare at car shows. Unfortunately,it is time to let this one go and enjoy our other collectables, as we don’t have time to drive them all. We call it our “Classy Rat Rod” because the car has not been molested tolook like a Junker, instead, we left itall original except for a couple of things. We were going to repaint it and redo the interior, but everyone who saw it said we were nuts and told us to leave it aloneand don’t ruin the“Classy Rat Rod” look it already has, while ALSO reminding them ofmovies like“Goodfellas”, so we powder coated the wheels, installed spider caps, and new whitewall tires to finish off the look. Starts and runs well, very strong engine (my mechanic wants to buy the engine from us, lol), but could use a quick tune up as we have not driven it much lately. ENGINE: 394 cubic inch ROCKET V8 with 2 barrel carburetor, modified from generator to alternator. TRANSMISSION: 4 speed automatic. STEERING: Manual, but very easy to steer. BRAKES: Manual. New master cylinder, all new brakes including new wheel cylinders on all four wheels. MILEAGE: Odometer says 70121 miles, not sure if those are original miles, but car looks like they are. Body is all original. Has full perimeter frame, which is much stronger that the typical “X frame” used on other GM cars in 1959. We have the original hub caps and fender skirts that come with the car, has new ignition in dash, new starter, new tires, new electric fuel pump,ALL ventilation controls work, but never used the heater as we live in Arizona, new (old stock) vintage driver and passenger mirrors (worth $400+), carpet on floor has a couple or worn spots, upholstery is good, with a couple of “dinks”,still has original door panels with all original chrome trim, ALL doors are tight, hinges are tight. Lower chrome under doors on passenger side was loose, so it was removed and will come inside the car, as was the passenger side fender top chrome rocket that will be inside the car too. Drives very nice and has power to go. I can provide the name of a very goodauto transportation broker that I have used over the years if you need one. Oh, and for those who think 4-doors are not worth anything.... ask anyone over 40 and they will tell you how much more fun it is to ride in a classic that didn’t sprain their knee or back by squeezing past a folding front seat in a 2 door, lol. A Classic is a Classic!
