1952 Mercury Monterey Description:

This gorgeous Ravin Black over Lakewood green (code54A) 1952 Mercury Monterey hardtop is one of the best you will find. Treated to a no-expense-spared restoration several years ago it maintains the highest levels of workmanship and authenticity. A rust-free western car most of its life there is absolutely no evidence it was ever rusty. Sides are straight with no fillers or patches, gaps are true, finishes are the highest levels of workmanship. Paint is near flawless. There are a couple of minor chips from use. It has the optional skirts and fog lights (working). All chrome was refinished and remains in show condition. All stainless was professionally straightened and polished and remains brilliant, show worthy condition today. All exterior lights and turn signals work. All the glass and seals are like new.
I purchased this car a few years ago from the estate sale of the previous owner who lived in the same town as me. I knew him and the car prior to purchasing it. I am selling it because of age and not using it much. Time for someone else to enjoy this very good car that is always a favorite when cruising or at a show. He as well as I maintained this car in a controlled environment.
A two-tone white and green interior provides a bright, upscale look that is pure 50's. The vinyl upholstery shows zero signs of wear, although the car has been driven over 8,000 miles since restoration. Fresh carpets, a taut dark green vinyl headliner, and the striking door panels with their stainless inserts add to the upscale feel that separated a Mercury from a Ford. Time period design with all thing's aircraft for the heat and air ventilation control levers flanking the centrally mounted speedometer, and their smooth operation speak to the quality of the restoration. All the gauges have been rebuilt and are fully functional, as is the original AM radio and clock (which is disconnected to prevent battery drain). The wipers, horn and heater work as new. All interior lights work. It has the optional windshield washer installed. Seat belts have been added to the front seat. The trunk is correctly finished with a reproduction mat, matching steel wheel with WW radial. The trunk floor is completely original and has the original-style sound deadening layer installed.
Reinforcing its reputation as one of the fastest cars of the time period this Mercury packs Fords ultimate flathead; the 255 c.i. V8. With a bump in compression, it made 125 horsepower and paired with a 3-speed manual w/OD, was a legitimate 100mph automobile. Detailed for show at restoration, it still shows quite well today, although I believe that a healthy car is one that is driven regularly, so it shows signs of use today. Proper Ford script hoses and original style hose clamps along with proper labels add to the detail of the restoration. The wiring harness is new along with the battery for the electrical department. It starts quickly and easily with the original 6-volt electrical system and settles into a smooth idle at warm-up. The dual exhaust system mufflers provide that wonderful low rumble typical of the 50's. All fluids and filters have been regularly replaced as well as regular lubrication points. Engine runs cool in any weather.
The flathead is teamed with a standard 3-speed transmission with a Borg-Warner overdrive unit. Its seamless operation is quite impressive. In overdrive this Mercury will cruise at 70MPH all day. The 10inch clutch disk and pressure plate was recently replaced along with balancing the flywheel. The chassis is as clean as the body, solid, no rust or patch panels. Brakes and suspension work as new. Coker whitewall radials (in good condition) have been fitted to the original steel wheels with reproduction stainless trim rings ad hubcaps. It tracks with little correction and runs straight. This is an exceptionally good car that would do well at shows but with the overdrive it is much more fun to drive. This is impossible to duplicate at the reserve price of a Ford. This classic requires nothing but a new owner.
