1958 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Description:

I purchased this car at an estate auction here in Helena Montana.....the car was last titled in 2004.....it was parked in a carport with a cover...the cover is included in the sale....The car has the optional Hydrak transmission which is a combination of stick and automatic......the lady who purchased the car apparently couldn't figure out the Hydrak transmission and parked the car....With this transmission there is no clutch pedal...it is a 4 speed column shift...to disengage the clutch you grasp the shift lever..... you have to let go off the shift lever between gears or the clutch will stay disengaged...I have included 5 YouTube Video Links for this car in the listing.....one of them shows the car being driven with the Hydrak...You will have to cut and paste the video links until I figure out how to embed them in the listing...Thanks
ENGINE.....6 Cylinder SOHC with 2 Solex Carburetors...New Cap..Rotor and Plug Wires...I did not reroute the new plug wires through the original metal channel...this is included in the sale...Car starts easily....idles and does not overheat.... Aluminum Head...Valve cover and Oil pan....I have changed the oil but not the filter....2 paper filters for the car are included in the sale....PAINT....The car has driver quality paint...the clear coat has lifted on the top and will need to be refinished.....there appears to be good paint under the clear coat....There are a number of videos showing how to repair this faded clear coat, but that is beyond my skill level....the passenger side door has been damaged and has bondo in it....this is shown in video....https://youtu.be/kywTDLZjDVM...there are some chips in the paint which you will see in the video...
CHROME......Driver quality chrome front and rear....new reproduction bumper guards on the front...the rear bumper guards will need to be rechromed...
INTERIOR..The door panels are all good......all handles, levers are in place except for the left rear window crank which is missing the chrome knob.....Seat covers have original material.....usual wear and stains...the top of the rear seat is blown out...see videos....I have a sample of the original seat material and it will be included in the sale....Headliner is good...visors are good...the package tray and the area around the rear window on the sides is weathered..Carpets are not torn but have some stains and discoloration.....
LIGHTS...all of the lights work....I haven't figured out how to turn the optional fog lights on?
TIRES....All 4 tires have plenty of tread but they have been on the car since it was stored and should be replaced for safe operation....The spare is useable but does not match the other 4 tires...
HUBCAPS....these are one piece caps instead of the correct center cap and trim ring...I believe thes caps were used on the convertible and 2 door....caps are driver quality
RADIO....an aftermarket Panasonic AM/FM Cassette radio has been installed with 4 speakers....a custom wood surround has been installed around the radio...The radio works..cassette function untested...Wiring in place to upgrade to a more modern radio
BRAKES...I replaced the Master Cylinder and the 2 rear wheel cylinders...the car could use brake shoes in the future...the front shoes are the alloy units with the Merceds Benz Logo on them...TThe finned aluminum front brake drums have been turned....Same units as the 300SL I believe...
MILEAGE....The car is showing 74,321....there is a Pennzoil oil change sticker from 1996 on the door showing 73,621 so about 900 miles in 27 years..The speedometer/odometer both work.....I don't know how many times the odometer has turned over...The brake pedal show only light wear...see videos...
GLASS...all original Sekurit glass...normal wear.....Door windows roll up and down.....
LOCKS....All door locks work except for the drivers door
GAS TANK....the tank was dry when I purchased the car,,,,No odor of varnish, etc...it now has about 10 gallons of Ethanol Free Premium in it....I would not run Ethanol gas in these older cars....The car had a reserve tank valve that could be operated from the passenger compartment...this valve has been removed but is included in the sale...
RUST...the car has been heavily undercoated...possibly at the factory....there is a bracket inside the left fronf fender that holds a vacuum chamber that is part of the Hydrak and the bracket is rusted....the drain for the fender in the same area shows some rust....it is not visible from outside the car...see videos...
TITLE...clear Montana Title....It is signed and notarized by the person holding Power of Attorney for the estate....I will include the original Power of Attorney Document in the sale..Any questions..please contact me....The Bi-Centennial plates from 1976 were in the trunk and are included...I'm not sure when the car was first titled in Montana?..The current title was issued in 1989..
DOCUMENTATION.....20 pages of documents showing maintenance and repairs on the car...oriinal Owners Manual..Parts Manual...Shop Manual and Hydrak Transmission Supplement..1990....replace coil spring 1991....Oil...plugs...lube 1991...Outer and inner tie rods replaced.... 1991...Y Valve Fitting for the reserve tank removed..was leaking .....bypassed and replaced with rubber fuel line....Original valve included in sale... 1991...Tune up....filters...carbs rebuilt....1992...Tires 1992....Wheel cylinders replaced...2023 front brake .drums turned 2023...I replaced the brake master cylinder and 2 rear brake cylinders and will include the originals in the sale see videos....
