1984 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Description:

1984 Mercedes 300GD Short Wheel Base Gelandewagen now with the famous Mercedes 617A turbo diesel 5 cylinder motor. The head was rebuilt, as well as many new parts were used in the refresh. This is a strong and dependable motor. The 617A motor is mated to a used Mercedes 5 Speed overdrive manual transmission with new front and rear main bearings. The 300GD is 2 wheel drive till you shift the transfer case shifter into 4 wheel drive high then 4 wheel drive low gear.It has Front and Rear lockers which are engaged by pulling up on the 2 levers just behind the shifter. These are hydraulic with the 2 masters having been rebuilt.The interior has the rare and highly sought after slider windows in the rear compartment. It has a cage behind the front seats for transporting items instead of the conventional back seat. Great for hauling stuff, camping or carrying the dogs around.The steel wheels were replaced with Mercedes factory alloys and brand new larger tires. This a hard to find Rust Free example. It was imported last year from Italy. I believe it to have been a parts hauler for a smart car dealership in Italy as the rear windows have ghosting of the Smart Logo.
A couple electrical issues (most likely ground issues) need addressed though they do not affect the driving of the vehicle. The oil pressure light, Locker lights, interior lights and a couple other little things need to be tweaked. Speedometer is in Kilometer and not real sure of the mileage
