1954 MERCEDES BENZ 300 ADENAUER SUNROOF

The Mercedes-Benz W186 model 300 was a four-door luxury tourer produced by Mercedes-Benz between 1951 and 1957. The company's largest and most prestigious automobile, it was the Maybach of its day, elegant, powerful, exclusive, and expensive. Three versions were produced in succession, known informally as the 300a (or simply 300), 300b, and 300c. An enlarged "300d" variant built on the W189 chassis succeeded it in late 1957.
All but hand-built as the company flagship, the W186 is often identified as an Adenauer after Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, who employed six custom cabriolet, hardtop saloon, and landaulet versions of the W186 and its successor W189 during his 1949-1963 tenure. Among the custom features in these "parade cars" were writing desks, sirens, curtains, dividing partitions, sunroofs, and half-roof "landaulet" configurations.
The four door 300 (W186) was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in April 1951 and entered series production in November 1951. It had no "a" designation, which was informally added, along with the "b" and "c", by later enthusiasts seeking to distinguish the three W186 generations.
Available as both a saloon and cabriolet, it featured graceful modernist bodywork atop Mercedes' proven X-frame chassis. An all new 3.0 L (2996 cc/182 in) overhead cam, aluminum head M186 straight-6 was coupled to a 4-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox. Twin downdraft Solex carburetors and an innovative diagonal head-to-block joint that allowed for oversized intake and exhaust valves produced 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) at a 6.4:1 compression ratio.
The W186 cabriolet displays the series' streamlined rear lines
Designed to give reliable service under prolonged hard use, the engine featured deep water jackets, thermostatically controlled oil cooling, copper-lead bearings and a hardened crankshaft. With no natural cruising speed, the car could sustain anything up to its maximum speed all day, road conditions permitting

CLEAR KANSAS TITLE

THE ODOMETER READS 55,587. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER WHO THEN PROCEEDED TO HAVE THE ENGINE SWAPPED FROM THE ORIGINAL INLINE 6 TO A CHEVY SMALL BLOCK V8 /327. THIS WAS DONE PROFESSIONALLY AND WHILE BEING USED, IT WAS A RELIABLE DRIVER. AT THE TIME OF THE ENGINE SWAP A GM AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED AS WELL AS POWER STEERING. THE ENGINE STARTS EASILY AND RUNS WELL WITH NO UNUSUAL NOISES. THE CARB IS A QUADRAJET 4 BBL. THE 3 SPEED GM AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SMOOTHLY THROUGH ALL THE GEARS. THE BRAKES WILL REQUIRE SOME WORK. THEY WILL STOP THE CAR SO IT CAN BE DRIVEN TO A TRANSPORT TRAILER. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DOES WORK. THE CAR WAS AN AUTOMATIC ORIGINALLY.

I HAVE THE MERCEDES ENGINE WHICH IS INCLUDED. THE ENGINE CASTING NUMBER IS 860 110 901. ALSO 30E52. THERE IS A TAG ON THE BLOCK THAT IS DIFFICULT TO READ. I BELIEVE IT READS 1186/186920 1535/52.
THE ENGINE APPEARS TO BE ALMOST COMPLETE. ACCORDING TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER, THE WATER PUMP FAILED AND THE DECISION WAS MADE TO DO THE CONVERSION. THE ORIGINAL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS INCLUDED ALSO.
BRAKES WILL NEED ATTENTION AND NEEDS NEW TIRES TO MAKE IT A GREAT DAILY DRIVER CONDITION.

THE BODY PANELS ARE STRAIGHT . THE PAINT IS FADED. IT WAS LIKELY DONE IN THE 1980'S. THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY BLACK. PAINT CODE 40G. THE GAPS ARE CONSISTENT AS SEEN. THE CHROME IS UNRESTORED AND LOOKS GRET. NO COLLISION DAMAGE OR ACCIDENTS.

THE BELLY PAN IS SOLID AS SEEN IN THE PHOTOS. I DON'T SEE ANY EVIDENCE OF RUST OR RUST HOLES.

THE INTERIOR WAS REPLACED WITH BROWN LEATHER IN THE 1980'S PRIOR TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER. IT IS IN NICE CONDITION. THERE ARE NO RIPS OR TEARS. THE HEADLINER WAS ALSO REPLACED AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE WOOD HAS FEW AREAS OF WATER STAINS AT THE LOWER CORNERS OF THE BACK WINDOW BUT GENERALLY IT IS VERY GOOD WITH A NICE SATIN FINISH

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN THIS GREAT CLASSIC!
Most of the classic cars we consider as projects because of the age and wear unless they are fully restored!
