1983 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 240D Description:

Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I sell vehicles differently than most dealers. Buying your next car or truck through one of my NO RESERVE auctions is the best way to take the games out of your next automotive purchase. I personally road test each vehicle before it is offered for sale so I can give you my first hand opinion of how it runs and drives. Please keep in mind that... I am not a mechanic. Each vehicle is represented accurately and honestly to the best of my knowledge and ability. Please take the time to check out each of the 70+ photos and read this entire written description, as well as our Terms & Conditions, carefully BEFORE asking questions or placing a bid as most answers can be found in at least one of those places. An administrative fee of $149 will be added to the final bid of each auction. Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D that appears to be a pretty nice survivor. I would rate the exterior of this 240 to be in ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION for its age and mileage. She appears to have been a southern car for at least half of her life, which probably is the reason she's in such good condition. This 240D is finished in dark blue over tan interior with matching blue wheel covers. The blue finish shows some age but is presentable, for a 36 year old car. The body itself is in remarkably good condition. There is one spot of rust visible on the bottom of the RF fender about the size of a half dollar. You can see, on the trunk, that there are some paint issues there...but it is purely cosmetic. Please take a moment and actually look down the body lines. This 240D is incredibly straight and the finish looks smooth. The rockers are fully intact and there isn't a spec of rust to be found on the door bottoms or around the windshield. All of the exterior trim and moldings are present and show well for their age. All of the glass and lenses are intact. The factory wheel covers show well and are wrapped in matching rubber with nice tread all arouind. Please, please take your time and check out each of the photos to see how straight this old Merc looks. I would also rate the interior of this Mercedes to be in ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION for its age and mileage. The door cards are clean and tight. The dash and headliner are clean, too. You can see that the headliner is sagging in the rear, but it's all there and looks good. The seats show well for their age, front and rear, with just minor wear showing on the front seats. The wood veneers also show well for their age and are mostly intact. Pretty much anything with a switch in the interior works when it wants to. The RF window is pretty consistent. The LF and RR windows work when they want to. The LR window has never worked and the sunroof works when it wants to. The audio system has been upgraded with an aftermarket CD player, which I cannot get to work. What's more, I cannot get the interior fan to work. The glove box contains the original owner's manual, service plaque, and service book...showing that this Mercedes was religiously dealer maintained from new until the book ran out of room! The trunk is spacious and clean. The original First Aid kit is still present, too. There will be a little fixing to do in the cabin...but a 240 this straight and solid is worth fixing. Mechanically, this Mercedes appears to be in good running and driving condition. The 2.4L diesel engine starts right up...like, right up and purrs like an angry little kitten. I didn't notice any leaks and the engine does not smoke. Her road manners are excellent. The suspension feels tight and well sorted. Steering and braking feel good, too. The engine keeps perfect temperature and runs just like it should. In case you're not familiar, an 80's non-turbo Mercedes diesel is not exactly a power house. These things go at their own pace...but they never stop going, ever. What normally does these cars in is rust...and this one is exceptionally clean, owing to the fact that it lived at least the first half of its life in Georgia. The automatic transmission engages smoothly and shifts properly with zero issues. Out on the highway, she drives nice and straight with absolutely no complaints. She will cruise at 70mph all day long...until you reach a hill, haha. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
