North America was the key market for thisPersonal luxury car,and 2/3 of R107 and C107 production was sold there. The R107/C107 for the North American market sported four round low-outputsealed beamheadlights, due tounique U.S. regulations. From 1974, the front and rear bumpers were dramatically lengthened, by 8 inches (203mm) on each end, to comply with the U.S.NHTSA regulations. R107 and C107 cars were exported to the US with low compression 4.5 liter V8 engines to meet stringent US emissions requirements, yet still provide adequate power.The 450 SL was produced until 1980. Starting in 1980, US cars were equipped with lambda control, which varied the air/fuel mixture based on feedback from an oxygen sensor. The smaller engined 380 SL replaced the 450SL from 1981 to 1985. The 380 SL was the least powerful of the US imported R107 roadsters, so 79-80 are the last years of the more powerful 450SL. This vehicle runs great but needs some cosmetic TLC. We have over $7000 in recent receipts for mechanical repairs including: New Soft Top, Valve Covers, Air filter, Fuel injectors, Trans flush, All New A/C component, Windshield washer reservoir, rebuilt Steering box, Steering Strut, inner and outer tie rods, Lower control arm bushings (Dr and Pass), Front Shocks, Spark Plugs, Wire Set, Cap and Rotor, Fuel Filter and more!!

Items that need attention are: dings on chrome on Fr and RR bumper and hood, slat on grill is loose, Dr chrome trim and door guard are loose, Interior Hard top headliner has two minor rips, sun visors hang loose, temp selector knob is worn, driver rear tail light has crack in it, and top looks repainted and has small flaws in paint. These are all minor items but would need attention to make the car look pristine.

Overall the paint shines and looks great. The interior is a solid 8 of 10 and only needs slight attention.
