1966 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 230S Description:

For sale is this very nice 1966 Mercedes Benz 230S. Acquired from the original owner, who purchased the unit new, while living in Hermosa Beach.
Bought in 1966 to replace his domestic cars that were "constantly breaking down" on the California freeways. He needed something reliable for his profession, and could not afford any "downtime".
This car delivered reliability for him, and never let him down when he needed it. It has had a complete paint job within the last 5 or so years, although as you can see in the pictures a few "flaws". A very large rock met his roofline above the windshield out on highway 1 back in the '70's. Oddly, he left this un-repaired for his own reasons, likely a reminder that "close call" situations should be remembered. Another time - slammed the hood without removing an "un-accounted for" tool - causing a dimple at the rear of the hood. The bumpers and brightwork have some dents and pitting/dulling. Despite these - the car shows very well, and always turns heads.
The interior is all original, except for the drivers seat. That seat cover was replace with a GAHH set, which is a very good reproduction of the original material and stitching. Hat shelf is sun-baked and deteriorated, and the top section of the drivers door panel is challenged, from hanging the arm on it. The original style Becker Europa radio is in place and works great - even the tuning bar. The clock keeps perfect time. All gauges and backlighting are operational. Heater levers are free and smooth. Blower is quiet. Headliner in decent condition - no tears, but staining here and there.
There appears to have been a patch panel installed in the left rear rocker/trunk floor. I think these were common to collect water and rust out. Looks like the quality of the patch was good. Surface rust staining underneath the trunk rubber mat - but not perforated - as if it got wet at one time.
There was a time when the owner of the car was adamant about sorting out a vibration in the car that he wasn't accustomed to. This led to renewing the rear axle, driveshaft, transmission and finally - disassembling the engine, and having the complete rotating assembly balanced and reassembled with new parts.
The wheels were replaced (including spare) with factory alloys from a later vehicle and this is what is depicted in the photos. The original steel wheels, with hub caps/trim rings/spare come with the car.
Original Zenith carburetors, professionally rebuilt. Set of Webers go with the car for spares.
Updated pointless ignition system installed.
Shoulder harness seat belts (only came with lap belts in 1966)
Engine balanced, reassembled with new bearings, seals, gaskets.
Transmission overhauled, with new syncro rings, seals gaskets.
Driveshaft rebuilt by Beyer Motorworks.
Rear axle disassembled with new pivot boot, pivot mount, trailing arm bushings, seals and gaskets.
Hydro compensator is 8 years old - one of the last ones available from Mercedes. Spring replacement kit comes with car as spare.
14inch alloys from a later Mercedes - all 5 including spare. Original 5 steel wheels/tires with hubcaps and trim rings included.
Various other spares.
