1960 Lotus Elite Description:

1960 Lotus Elite Series 1, very rare Maximar bodied LHD, "very few (perhaps only one or two) built" as described by noted Lotus author and historian Dennis Ortenburger in his book "the Lotus Elite"(copyright 1990). Also documented by Club Elite as series 1 Left Hand Drive in 1979. Series one cars had an advantage in being 200 lbs. lighter than Series two, ( 1200 lbs. versus 1400 lbs.). No evidence of pedal set ever mounted on right side of passenger compartment. Chassis/Body unit in good condition with no evidence of any major repair. Older restoration, runs and drives well, with 12,000 miles on odometer. Very little use since restoration. Engine has new timing gears, rings and bearings, as well as Derrington twin carburetor setup with tubular four branch header. New Made in England stainless steel exhaust system, Made in England Monza fuel cap, and brake and clutch master cylinders. Supplied with Lotus certificate of provenance and clear Florida title in seller's name. Engine is original numbers matching Coventry Climax as supplied by factory.
