This particular car has covered just 35,531 miles from new and presents in absolutely incredible, time-warp condition. This car is equipped from new with a rare promotional package that was only offered in the spring of 1974 which included special white paint, a dark brown Levant Grain vinyl roof and special light brown coach stripes. The interior was trimmed in two-tone upholstery to complement the body, with saddle brown and white leather seats and two-tone door panels and loads of luxury equipment. This Continental comes to us via the passionate original owner who took impeccable care of the car from day one. The white paint is excellent with few, if any, flaws to speak of; and the body lines are straight and crisp with no dents or dings on the panels. There is no corrosion found anywhere, and the extensive chrome trim on the bumpers and grille is excellent. The vinyl roof shows no signs of shrinking, peeling or dryness and even the rare optional sunroof works as it should! Headlights are hidden behind vacuum operated covers which operate smoothly and in synch. The only slight flaw we found was a slightly hardened sunroof seal.
Inside, the white and brown leather seating surfaces present in outstanding condition, showing little to no wear. Deep cut-pile carpets in brown are excellent, protected by matching overmats and the door panels are likewise outstanding. No peeling or cracking is found in the wood-applique trim, and every switch and dial on the dash works as it should, including the original radio and power antenna. Power windows, power seats and the aforementioned sunroof work perfectly – even the squeeze-rim horn on the steering wheel still works.
Out test drives revealed a car that is impeccably maintained and feels as if it’s a just few years old, rather than its 43 years. The 460 4V runs just beautifully, and is smooth and powerful with seamless shifts from the C6 automatic transmission. Engine detailing is factory correct and appears to be completely original with all decals and markings still clearly visible in the clean and tidy engine bay. The air conditioning works as it should and all vacuum operated HVAC controls operate smoothly. The big Continental glides down the road with no signs of slack in the suspension or controls, and the four-wheel disc brakes pull up straight and sound. It really is a joy to drive, a fun throwback to the big American luxury-barges of the early 70s.
