1976 Jeep CJ Description:

General - What we have here is a very nicely preserved, rust free, Montana high country desert Jeep. It is a 1976 CJ-5 in fair to good shape.I don't know much about Jeeps other than the U S Army M151s that I served with on my watch.I wanted a Jeep to use as a snow plow and to hunt and fish. After driving this one home, I found another with hardtop and snow plow attached. The title is clear and in my name.

Body and exterior - Amazingly solid inside and out, It appears to have hadowners who took very good care of it. The speedometer says 19993. It is virtually rust free, unlike some I found with diamond plate covering rust through areas. We use no salt here in Montana. Overall the exterior is very presentable, it has a not so professional repaint and the original blue shows through in spots. The windshield has no cracks or de-lamination.There is a roll bar, that can be unbolted, and a bikini top, not pictured that I will include. What I believe is the factory canvas top frame is present. There is a very nice winch which will go with the vehicle. Also included, is a rear bumper which I have not installed.

Mechanical - The engine appears to be the original, or is a period correct American Motors inline six cylinder, I believe it to be a 232 CID, that starts and runs well. The transmission has been upgraded to a four speed, which is a definite plus. The clutch, driveshaft and rear appear to be period correct, may be original, and function correctly. The trip home, was below zero and in a foot of snow, and the four wheel drive worked great.Beyond this description I don't know much as I have not driven the jeep except for that trip. The radiator has been replaced with an upgraded aluminum one and the Jeep has been converted to power steering, which is an advantage, remembering my old M151s.The park lights, headlights, tail lights, brake lights and turn signals all function properly.

Interior - Not much to talk about here. The seats I believe are original, and the front have covers on them indicating there is probably ware and tare on the original covers. The heater is present and works well. There is a console which may or may not be original. The key is missing to the ignition switch, but the lock can be rotated and starts the car just fine.I suppose a new key could be made or perhaps a new lock cylinder be installed; the lack of key has not been an issue here in Montana. The Jeep comes with a back in the day, two position gun rack, (could be used for rods and reels also, or maybe even ski poles) but I have not installed it because of four additional holes would have to be drilled.

Summary - One of the reasons for the popularity of older Jeeps is their simplicity to work on.This little Jeep is an excellent example of originality and is very complete.Very little work and a cheap paint job would bring it back to near original or leave it as is.It has a lot of potential to carry you hunting, fishing, or exploring.I suppose you could even make a hotrod or rock crawler out of it, although I would not want to hear about that.

Payment, Disclaimers, Storage, and Transportation - I require a non-refundable deposit of $500.00 within 48 hours and the remainder prior to me sending you the title. I prefer bank to bank transfer, or cash in person. Please only the initial $500 by PayPal, because of their 3% surcharge, unless you are willing to pay that. Well I have tried to represent the old Jeep as honestly and accurately as I can. It is a 42 year old mechanical contrivance and things can and will go wrong. It has minor dents, scratches and blemishes. Please read my narrative; please look closely at the pictures. The vehicle is sold as is, where is, and with no guarantee or warrantee implied or specified. I am very proud of my 100% rating and will answer questions. I will post some of them so that others may benefit. If you have less than 10 bid history, please contact me so I can be sure of your sincerity and ability to pay, or I will cancel your bid. I would not like to store the Jeep very long for worry of liability. I will help your transporter in any way that I can. Good luck with your bidding and thank you for your time spent in reading my listing.
