1981 Jeep CJ Description:

Up for your consideration is a 1981 Jeep CJ-5. I purchased this jeep solely based on its character. I looked for a CJ with a patina for a long time and this one has a great start on one. It also has a bullet hole, which in all honesty, is why I bought it. The story I got from the previous owner, was that the original owner had a rifle in the jeep and was driving with his wife as a passenger. The rifle discharged while traveling off-road and shot his wife in the calf. The bullet exited the jeep through the passenger side quarter panel.
That said, this CJ is powered by a small block V-8 and was built with high-quality parts, including roller rocker heads, a mild cam and etc. It scoots, however, it's not necessarily a hot rod, rather it was built to be bulletproof (pun intended). The engine is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The seats are in good condition and the interior is relatively clean and straight. The exterior has dings and dents. It comes with a working Warn 8000 winch, but for the life of me, I can't remember what I did with the remote, so you will need to get one for it. It also comes with a soft top and soft doors that are in fair condition.
I purchased this CJ to pull behind my motorhome but decided to go with something more practical as I spend a lot of time camping in the winter at snow parks and ski resorts. I absolutely hate to sell the thing, but I can't tow two vehicles.
I planned to go through the Jeep from nose cone to tailwheel after I purchased it but sidelined it after buying another tow vehicle. As such, it still needs some things to make it 100%. It runs, drives, shifts, and stops as is, but the steering is sloppy, the headlights need to be rewired, there is an exhaust leak, rear view mirror is missing, sidemirror is wiggly, some of the gauges do not work, and the throwout bearing is starting to make some noise on occasion. There may be some other odds and ends, but these are the ones I know about. Another few hundred dollars and you will have an awesome little jeep, though.
For what it's worth, I've only driven this jeep a handful of times since I purchased it, and each time I took it out, I received compliments from people on it.
Call or text Rich @ 541.777.4175 to see it. $4,900. There is a possibility I would trade for a dual sport or adventure bike, a vehicle wrap for my motorhome and tow car (25 ft Serro Scotty 4x4 and Subaru Baja), motorhome upholstery, carpet replacement, and repairs (delamination and RV maintenance).
