1989 Jeep wrangler Islander

97,800 MILEAGE
4.2L 6cyl ENGINE
Manual TRANSMISSION

1989 Jeep Wrangler Islander Description:

This is one of the cleanest, lowest mileage 1989 Wrangler Islanders you're going to find anywhere. 100% rust free, California original vehicle, only 97k ORIGINAL miles, fuel injected 4.2L 6 cylinder, CLEAN and CLEAR California title, NO accident history, and clean CarFax. And NO I'm NOT a dealer.
Specifics: 4.2 liter 6 cylinder, 5 speed, 50-state legal TBI fuel injection conversion (installed 2 years ago), and has the strong/reliable Aisin (Japanese built) AX15 transmission (NOT the weak Peugeot BA10 transmission that was also available on 87-89 6cyl Wranglers).
97,800 ORIGINAL MILES. This is not a roll-back. Leisure miles only (at least while in my hands - and I suspect under prior ownership as well based on the condition). I've owed it for 3 years and purchased it from a dealer.
This vehicle is completely stock, except for the fuel injection system (huge improvement over the original 2 barrel carburetor), plus a nearly unbreakable Tuffy center console. I've taken great care of this Jeep, and it's turn-key ready for the next owner. The Jeep is about a 8-9 on the exterior, 9 or so on the interior, and 9 mechanically. All lights, turn signals, and gauges work (except the analog clock works intermittently).
LOTS of upgrades in the last few years including:
-Only 3k miles on rebuilt engine and new clutch (all done at approximately 94k miles), with documentation. Engine has tons of power and great torque (feels about as good as the 4.0 "power tech" 6 that was available starting in '91). Transmission and clutch are in great shape and shift smoothly
-50-state emission legal fuel injection conversion system (GM/Howell TBI system) - runs great and always fires right up regardless of temperature, attitude, humidity, or how long the vehicle has sat.
-New catalytic converter and muffler at 94k miles. Passes emissions with near zero readings.
-Tires with about 60-75 percent tread remaining. 30x9.5x15 size (largest you can install without a lift kit on this model).
-New top, with ALL NEW HARDWARE about 2 years ago (and always stored out of the sun). This alone was over $1,000
-Bimini/bikini top in like-new condition, plus a rear deck/tonneau cover
-New carpeting
-New windshield wiper motor
-Factory "fold and tumble" rear seat (easily folds for extra cargo room)
- Power steering, tilt wheel, power brakes, newer detachable face Sony stereo with Aux input and CD (sorry, no bluetooth). You can also move the stereo into the Tuffy security box (if you wanted to move it)
-Brakes have about 90 percent pad remaining
-Upgraded gas shocks and steering stabilizer
-Class II tow hitch with wiring (that WORKS) - although I've never towed anything with this vehicle
-ALL major fluids changed about 1 year ago with 100% synthetic (transmission, transfer case, front and rear axles)
-Recent alignment - drives true, straight, and accurate
-20 gallon fuel tank (factory upgrade)
-Fuel sending unit replaced about 1 year ago
-Lots of service records
This Jeep runs, drives, and operates exactly as it should with no unusual noises or any problems. However, keep in mind this is a 28 year old Jeep and you shouldn't compare it with a new one, or a newer vehicle.
I hate to see this go, but it's unfortunately time to move on....
I have owned this vehicle for 3 years and kept it garaged and/or covered throughout that time. The vehicle is originally from the Los Altos and Arnold, CA areas based on Carfax records.
First $6,800 takes it. This Jeep is worth the money and only going up in value (assuming you don't destroy it with stupid modifications or bad driving habits). I'm sure you can find a cheaper 1st Gen Wrangler, but you'll likely dump thousands into it.
If you are a California buyer, I will provide a new smog check for the vehicle (as required by law). If you're an out-of-state buyer you will be responsible for smogging the vehicle yourself (if applicable to your area), but you should have no difficulties.
If you have any questions, please send me an email. CASH or verified Cashier's Checks ONLY, no trades, and I prefer an in-person pickup, but I can assist with shipping if necessary.
Thank you
PS - Problem areas (all minor)
-Analog clock works intermittently
-Gas gauge reads a little bit more than it actually is (but only when the headlights are on)
-Minor paint imperfections (mostly to the fender flares), but better than probably 90 percent of vehicles this age
-A few small drill holes in the tailgate from a previously installed luggage rack. This does not affect the operation of the tailgate.
-Intermittent wipers don't work (regular wipers work fine). It's a likely a switch, but I never fixed it since I've never driven this vehicle in the rain.
-Original "sun glow" decal is faded off the hood
NOTE: Vehicle is For Sale locally. As such I reserve the right to end the listing early.
