1977 Jaguar XJ6 Description:

This Jaguar XJ6L had been stored in a garage in North Carolina for the past 20 years and had not been driven during that period. The windshield sticker shows the last inspection was valid through 1998. The maintenance receipts show that the transmission was rebuilt in the fall of 1997, at a cost of almost $2,500, and a mileage of 111,350. Shortly thereafter, the car was parked in the garage and not driven (the current mileage is 111,730).
I purchased the classic Jag and rolled her into my garage where I began the restoration work. The engine was not seized, but I added a couple ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil to all 6 cylinders and allowed the engine to sit for a couple weeks, and then I simply cranked the cylinders 180 degrees and added more MMOil to ensure the rings were sufficiently lubed prior to starting. It sat like this another few weeks as I rebuilt the carbs, changed the oil and filter, drained the radiator, and drained and flushed the fuel tanks (20 year old gas ages like a fine Tennessee whiskey, no doubt). I corrected some electrical issues, along with numerous other small repairs. The carbs were installed and synchronized. Both submerged fuel pumps were defective from sitting in that foul gas for 20 years. I replaced the fuel pump on the passenger side and just keep the dashboard switch set to the "Right" tank, as 12 gallons is more than adequate unless you plan a cross-country trip.......so, the next owner can replace the driver's side tank fuel pump if so desired.
I took 3 videos and uploaded them to Youtube which show the engine starting and all the dash gauges working properly. The other videos are walk-arounds with the engine running and engine not running. As can be seen, the engine "purrs like a kitten" and idles great.

I did treat the fresh non-ethanol gas with a good dose of Marvel Mystery Oil, so the exhaust shows just a tinge of light smoke color which should clear up when oil is not mixed in the gas. Also, I used 1 quart of MM Oil along with the 6 quarts of fresh engine oil to ensure proper lubrication to all engine bearings.
As can be seen in the pictures, the lower rocker panels on each side of the car are in great condition.....being a southern car without the worries of road salt really shows.
Some other notes:
1. All glass is in superb condition, with no cracks or chips.2. The tires have great tread on them, but are all over 20 years old.3. There is a full size spare in the trunk, also on a nice chrome rim. The drivers' front tire is the original spare that came with the car, dating back to 1977.4. The front windshield rubber seal shows some age, and probably should be replaced unless the car will not be driven in the rain or stored outdoors.5. The rear window rubber seal may also need replacing, although there are no signs of water leakage into the trunk.6. The original leather seats are tearing in some seams and should be replaced.7. All dash gauges work properly, and the dash clock continues to "take a lickin and keep on tickin".
8. As can be seen in the video, the oil pressure shoots right up after starting the engine, and maintains great pressure.9. The Ampmeter reads correctly and shows that the alternator is charging the battery properly.
10. The Temp. gauge slowly comes up to the warm range after the engine has been running awhile.11. The Tachometer works smoothly, and the speedometer registers properly.12. My garage floor proves that the car does not leak fluids.13. Although the receipts show that the transmission was rebuilt way back in 1997, it seems a bit reluctant to always go into Reverse. Thus, the Borg Warner transmission may need an adjustment, or it could be a cable or vacuum line issue. All forward gears work fine.
14. The original radio was removed but the prior owner, but is included with the car.
15. Original Owners Manual and all prior maintenance records included.16. Jack and special lug wrench included.17. Compressor for Air Conditioner is not working, but a brand new one is included with car, along with the cylindrical dryer.
I have taken many pictures, and would be glad to email more pics to anyone who wishes.
I have set the opening bid at a low price, and there is No Reserve after that. Buyer is responsible for locating a shipper, but I will be glad to assist in loading the car. I can store the car in my garage for a couple weeks if necessary.
Good luck bidding.
