1963 Jaguar E-Type Description:

1963 Jaguar XKE: Each car has a story, and this one is very simple and authentic. Purchased by my friend's Tom, and Carol Lynn from the original owner in December of 1964 in Phoenix Arizona. It had 7000 miles then. After 55 years it now has 51,024 miles. They used it as a daily driver for about 10 years. Once the daily drivers duties were done the Jaguar was parked in a garage in Phoenix . They did drive it sparingly during this time. In 1976 Tom and Carol Lynn purchased a new home in the hills above San Diego. They drove the Jaguar out to San Diego from Phoenix. It was parked in that garage. They moved one more time in 1986 where it sits today. The idea was that they would use it more at the California home because of the ideal weather, but as time went by the Jag sat for longer and longer periods. Tom did the maintenance himself over the years. When the back carburetor began to leak the car was parked, and no longer driven or run. The last time the car was driven was in 1986. We have discussed with a mechanic bringing it back to lifeand getting it to be a running and driving car, but we decided to first put it out there for you as Jaguar people to purchase a rue rust free mostly one owner garage find. Figuring that most people would prefer to do these duties themselves. I am going to do my best to document the condition, but below I have a google page with many pictures and a couple of videos of the owners talking about the car, and when they purchased it back in December of 1964.
Cut and paste the below link for pics. If it does not work please send me a message with your email address and I will send it to you directly.

I spent a lot of the time with the Jag. I will outline my observation of condition below:

Body and Paint:The paint is 100% original. It will shine and buff and look amazing from 10 feet away.I included a bring sun light shot specifically to show you how amazing the 55-year-old paint appears.I have many outdoor pictures in the google album, But the shine off the paint and the chrome make it hard to focus on the details hence why I used mostly shade shots. With that said it I would liken the finish to a 10-year-old car might. With that I mean it has surface scratching, and door dings on both doors.Arizona in the 60's had many gravel roads. The bottom edges of the doors show sandblasting and scratches from driving on the surfaces.Except for the door dings that you can see pictures in the google album this XKE is straight and in excellent condition. The stainless and Chrome are all there, but there is sand pitting in the exhaust and lower chrome. The upper chrome items are in very good condition. The doors open and shut properly.

Interior: When you look at the interior you will see an aftermarket A/C system. The system was installed when the car was new by Borg Warner in Texas by the original owner. It never worked well.Tom and Carol Lynn did not use it.We are assuming that the center console does have screw holes from the installation. The switchgear and gauges all appear fantastic.Clear plastic and perfectly legible gauges.Like they were sitting in a dry garage for 55 years, as they did. Seats are in rough shape.Carpet also in Rough shape.Floors look new.The steering rag joint is wasted. The wheel does move around. We did push the car out of the garage and were able to steer it.

Trunk:When I pulled the carpet which looks well used, but not bad I was thrilled to see the floors which literally look new. The tool roll is incomplete.Tom said he broke most of the tools, because they acted "like they were made of paper”.We do still have the mallet and the one crescent wrench. The original wire wheel is in the truck with a tire date codes from 1969.Still holding air. Tom installed a electric fuel pump in the 70's when the in tank original failed.

Top:Its exactly what a top that spent its life in Arizona would look like. Its toast, but with that said the bows and cross bars are perfect. The Chrome look very good.We did not lower it for fear it would just fall apart.

Motor:Very dirty. Its easier to list what is not original. The overflow tank was just purchased and installed, but never finished.Plugs wires and cap are from the 70's.The battery is not present. The battery box does not show rust. The pan below shows acid rusting, but not causing holes. The data plate is present and the numbers match on the block and the body.

Chassis: Oil coats much of the chassis, but my guess is if power washed and scrubbed the bottom will look very nice. The suspension bushings are dried and, in some cases, gone. Everything is present and complete, but its best to expect to go through everything.

Tires and Wheels:Original wire wheels all in great shape.Originally according to Tom and Carol Lynn the XKE was equipped with wide white walls. Both owners said it was a beautiful site to see.The current tires are very old. They hold air but are at least 30 years old.

Documentation:The original title from December of 1964 is included with the sale. The owners had the title re-issued so as to make an easier sale process, but we were able to retain the original. We have the original manual which is in rough shape, but complete.Since Tom maintained it from 1 year old he does not have any documents. For the buyer if you want something specific for provenance we will try to help.Maybe a video from the owners, or a letter. If you have a need ask me I am sure they will help us out.

Mileage: When Tom and Carol Lynn purchased the car it had about 7000 miles.Much of the miles was the drive the first owner did to Texas to have the A/C installed. The current mileage is 51,024 and the owners will sign a statement evidencing that to be completely original and correct.

I have done my best to present the car for what it is. I am happy to discuss the car in detail with anyone whom is interested in hearing about it. The owners have been friend for many year and I really think their story makes the car even more special. We are happy to sell the car outside of the auction. I will listen to all offers. I have the permission and blessing of the owners to sell the car. You will speak to me throughout the complete sale process. The owners will speak to a buyer after a sale is completed. The car is available for viewing in San Diego for qualified serious buyers. Please do not expect this cars purchase price to be a "steal" . The owners are aware of the potential value range taking in account its current non running state, figured in with its condition, and provenance / originality. We are looking for someone interested in what it is, capable of paying, fair on pricing and lastly ease of transaction.

Remember this car is not able to run. It will have to be trailored, and the driveway is very steep. It will steer and stop.

Please call me with any questions. Frank at 602-908-9267
