1973 International Harvester Scout II 4X4 Cab Top Description:

Really nice, mostly stock and original, great running and driving, highly optioned, rare 1973 International-Harvester Scout II Cab Top pickup truck. The Cab Top was built from 1973 until 1975 and represented only 3.3% of all Scout II production during those years. It's a hard-to-find-beast.
Mechanically it's in excellent condition with the Holy Grail of Scout II running gear. Engine is the 304cid V8 (with dual turbo-style muffler exhaust, new batteries and a new Edelbrock fuel pump) backed up by a Borg-Warner T-18 4 speed manual transmission. Transfer case is a Dana 20 running to Dana 44 differentials front (with Warn locking hubs) and rear (with Trac-Lok limited slip). Everything works properly although it could stand a carb rebuild from sitting. There are disc brakes up front which was an extremely rare option in 1973. All these components represent significantoptional upgrades to the base Scout II drivetrain.
Interior is in good, mostly original condition. I removed the aftermarket seat cover to show the original upholstery which reveals this Scout II came with the optional Deluxe Interior Package. Dash is in very good condition with only minor cutting for the vintage AM/FM/cassette stereo. Only the ALTERNATOR gauge works right now. Floor pans were repaired once long ago to a very high standard. Any visible surface rust has been coated with Rust Reformer so it won't spread. Of the six panels of glass (all easily replaceable flat glass) only the windshield and drivers door window are cracked.
Exterior still has mostly original paint. It has some rust-through but it's not too bad and is in easily repairable places. There has never been any previous rust repair to the exterior sheet metal. Patch panels are readily available in the aftermarket if you choose to go that route. And the undercarriage is almost all surface rust only. It's also got a Weather Guard 307 Pack Rat Drawer Unit bolted in the bed. I just checked and they are over $1000 new. Front and rear bumpers are both very beefy bolt-on units (front is drilled for a winch plate). Most exterior lights work (lights on bumper are not wired up). Tires are old with cracks so they're best considered rollers. And long ago a prior owner installed a body lift with polyurethane spacers. I think it gives it a nice stance.
Scouts (especially II's) are rapidly appreciating in value as early Bronco's and FJ40 Land Cruiser's become priced out of reach for many. The fact that this is a rare Cab Top (only 3.3% of overall Scout production) only adds to its desirability. It runs and drives very well and is mostly rattle-free (especially by Scout II standards). My hope is that it finds a good home where it will be preserved for future generations.
