1950 Ford Other Custom Convertible Flathead V-8 Description:

Description: 1950 Ford Custom convertible in its original color of Casino Creme with matching top. The owner purchased the Ford in 1984 and over the years did his own frame off restoration including the paint, bodywork, interior, and rebuild of the engine. The project was completed approximately 11 years ago and has been driven less than 1000 miles to local shows and cruise-ins.

The original 239 c.i. “Flathead” V-8 rated at 100 h.p. has no modifications except for dual exhaust with “Smitty” mufflers. An electric fuel pump is used to move the fuel to the carburetor to start the car and then the manual pump takes over. The V-8 is backed by the stock and rebuilt 3-speed manual column shift.

The electrical system is stock but uses a 6-volt alternator which looks like a generator. All exterior lights, turn signals, and interior courtesy lights function. Speedometer, temperature gauge, odometer, and heater function normally, but the radio and clock do not.

The top was custom made to fit the stock bows and is made of a high-quality canvas with a plastic window and matching boot. The power top does work, ( although not videotaped) and the motor was relocated to the trunk like the ’51 and later model Fords.

A complete LaBaron Bonney interior was installed by the owner and shows no evidence of wear or broken seams. Seatbelts were also added.

The paint and bodywork were performed by the owner and on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being perfect, I would rate the car between a 4 and 5. Please look at all of the photos carefully and feel free to ask questions.

Exterior chrome is in good condition as well as all of the glass.

New radial wide white walls were recently added for better handling and a smoother ride.

A couple of items which will need attention include the carburetor which does have a slight leak and voltage regulator which stays on while the battery is connected and drains it.

The classic “shoebox” Ford drives fine and definitely draws attention wherever it goes.
