1970 Ford E-Series Van Window Description:

Here's a sweet 1970 ford e200 van located in Portland Oregon.
The previous owner had it in a shop/yardwhere it was stolen. The brake lines were cut, the hood, bumper, radiator and battery were ripped off.He had a new radiator installed.A broken head bolt resulted in a blown head gasket.
I've only had it a couple months and haven't transferred the title yet.I'm at the point of keep it or sell it.
I removed the engine/tranny and degreased the entire engine compartment and front frame.New engine gasket kit with a one piece oil pan gasket.New head bolts - both sides.Resurfaced flywheel with new clutch and pressure plate,Rebuilt 2-barrel carburetor.New u-joints.New brake hoses(3), master cylinder and fluid.New starterConverted to a one-wire Chevy alternator (internal regulator)Replaced needed wiring.New battery and cables
The 302 engine was rebuilt about 25 years ago at around 90k miles.Currently there's about 120k miles although it rolled over at 100k.It's in too nice condition to have 220k.
A hood was found but not painted to match. (Little rust spots)While searching got a cool aluminum grille and corner pieces, not perfect but matches the vans condition.Much cooler although it's a later year.(Original steel grille was sold to repay)
Custom mounts were made for a 1975-1991 style front bumperwith the center license plate recess. It's taller than stock, and gives a little more protection to the vulnerable front end.The rear bumper was bent up,so I also made a rear 3.5" pipe bumper with a hitch mount. This is a unibody frame, and the bumper mounts to a weak sheet metal structure.I wouldn't tow anything super heavy with it.I'll be welding end caps on this weekend and shorten it a bit.
The body - frame and underneath is basically rust free.It is amazing to see such clean doors, jambs, roof and window surrounds. There are no repairs, welded or bondo sections hiding rot.The outside has been repainted the original blue,I think the top was originally white.
There are many little dents and dinks in random places.Hard to see until you stare at it.The rear tail light was pushed in and we popped it out, touch up paint is rough. There are a few decent shopping cart style dents and scratches on the sides.Check pics for the reflections.
The glass and rubber are good.Windshield wipers, lights and blinkers work. There are blue dots in the tail lights.Horn works. There is an awesome stereo, 300 watt amp and front rear speakers. The interior is a clean paneling with insulation. It looks good from a distance but up close the fit is not professional.
The aluminum mags and tires are from 2007.The tread is great but there is rubber cracking on the sidewall by the bead. The caps say Ultra.
I added a 2001 ford van middle seat with quick release brackets.Very handy when we loaded up a couch. The front seats are newer high backs but really comfortable. The center console top was cracked so I bondoed and paint matched the bad spots.
Currently I drive it to work 20 mile round trip.I've driven it on the freeway about 50 miles no problem. There isn't overdrive so it's not the fastest unless the engine winds up.It drives like a hot rod - 302, 3-speed and 9" rear end.
The steering isn't the tightest it is the weak spot in these vans. The drum brakes stop like drum brakes.Emergency brake works great.
Things I would like to do...-swap to an electronic ignition duraspark/hei distributor.-needs a radiator reservoir-I'd install a 4-barrel intake/carb- stiffer front shocks and/or taller springs-rear lift kit-figure a disc brake conversion-get bigger tires.- convert to an overdrive transmission or change rear gears.-make a 4x4!(Why I'm considering selling it... I've got other hot rods that need that time and $$!!)
This is in Portland Oregon.I have driven it about 300 miles so far.I'd hope that it could be driven to the buyers location, but can't guarantee as anything could happen depending on distance, weather, driving style etc.I'd drive it with a basic tool kit,but if you aren't mechanical than maybe shipping is best.Or at least bring a friend that is!!I can store if it needs to be transported but not too long.
It is a great van!!
